  1. Hi Ned, Take it from one who knows ..... you are doing fine. I am new to this game as well and feel your pain. It is a path we all tread. All these battles against wind and any other events that are thrown at you are all normal and you will overcome them bit by bit. It's normal to feel demoralised but all you need is one good days flying with a little progression and I guarantee you that it will be enough to pick you up and spur you on. Eventually .... after a few knocks .... you will pass a point where you are able to pick yourself up more easily and carry on ...... don't get too disheartened. Keep your chin up and try and enjoy the little successes ...... bigger ones are on their way. Enjoy Toto
  2. These batteries don't half take some time to discharge. nevermind ..... I am getting there. I have a further 24 to get through which I will start on tomorrow night. I'm waiting for 5 to finally complete as I have a good old chat with my mate John Smith. I'll be glad to get this out of the way and get myself in a position where I can start managing these a bit better. ..... Note I never said correctly ...... as there will no doubt be many opinions as to that ...... 🤣 I am starting to feel happier from a safety and battery life point of view ........ I had to start somewhere. toto
  3. I have a bit of everything from battery pouches to ammo boxes but they are very restrictive in terms of the length of leads on the batteries for reaching the charger terminals. so for now ..... I have a good pair of trainers that will see me out of the shed quick enough if it all goes belly up . 😄 hope it never happens though. I will look into a better set up. My mind is on a new purpose built shed which I would build a more purpose ready space for battery charging etc , but that's further down the line for now. toto
  4. Yes David .... I have two force .46's but going on my experience with the Arising Star ...... it will be once I have learned to fly and gained enough experience on electric. My last attempt at IC was nothing short of a disaster. I'm in no hurry to repeat it, at least not at this stage of my journey as I am only starting to see real progress and want to keep it at that. The force .46's will have their day ..... 😄 cheers toto
  5. Thanks Leccy, for now ....... I have set up on an industrial scale .......😆 who's the daddy. Some of my battery packs are ok and don't require to be touched as thankfully I did not charge them all on arrival. i did want to make sure they would take a charge when I got them. Others do require attention as they are sitting at 85% charged and similar. I have set the chargers on 1.0 A and reduced them to 3.8v per cell...... or very close to that. I've only got about another 20 or so to look at ..... ha ... ha. Then hopefully I can forget about them for a while and concentrate on what I am currently using for the Super Cub .... 8 no $s 3300 mah batteries which I try to cycle in use. cheers toto
  6. Hi Leccy, I'd agree about discharging by actually using the model but it's u likely that the models ..... for example .... for my 6S's are my Beaver and my Twin Otter which are both built but u li,Ely to fly as I am already sticking to the very good advice given about learning and sticking with one model at a time ..... currently my super hero the Supercub. I could set up the twin otter in my back garden on a bungee and just turned the throttle up but not ideal in full view of my very inquisitive ( and dodgy ) neighbours. I also bought a load of 3S batteries destined for two gliders as I had been considering looking at hitting the slopes as a means of getting stick time. .... So bought some appropriate batteries with that intension but it never materialised. No harm the batteries will keep but they have been charged fully. I need to check their current levels. I know I have jumped in on various occasions ( as I am sure all will agree with ) but I have slowly learned to calm down a bit. However, I am where I am and just trying to get to the b3st position with currently redundant batteries. I think, one way or the other, I will start to reduce or increase the batteries that are less likely to be used anytime soon and hopefully remove them from the back of my mind ..... for a while at least until they are needed. Does that sound reasonable ? Toto
  7. The seed has been planted for some time but the Supercub is doing such a good job. Not just that but I have the Domino to resurrect again whatever is causing those ESC failures. If I do sign up for another trainer though it will probably be the Boomerang. The benefit of having another of these type of kits is it forces you to get the install of the servos etc correct rather than the pre-installed ready to run from the box type. ( in my mind anyway ). I did notice that the EP version was about 150mm narrower in terms of wingspan than the ( red ) IC / EP version. That puts me off slightly but on the plus side, the EP version has the front nose cowl which I feel tidies it up a bit. Hmmm .... horses for courses ....... Toto
  8. Another point ...... I do have quite a few batteries in different states of charge. Many of them over 3 / 4 charged. Whilst playing around with my chargers I came across " storage " in the menu. I presume this is to take the battery either up or down to a storage charge. Is it simply a case of plugging the batteries in and hitting the storage button and the charger does the rest. Also ...... do you have to set the rate at which the charger will achieve this ? ..... similar to selecting the rate at which the battery charges. I do have loads of various size batteries and would like to get them to their optimum level for storage to lessen the chance of knackering them due to non use. I find that I am only using my 4S 3300 mah at the moment for my supercub whilst training. I have loads of 3S and 6s batteri3s that won't see the light of day for some time ......... don't ask why I charged them in the first place. How long will the batteries hold at the storage level forbefore you have to top them up ? Toto
  9. Thanks Ron, I kept coming up with the other version for the IC / EP convertible and just wasn't sure if they were the exact same design. Much appreciated. Inotethat the speed controller and the battery are virtually on top of one another ..... is this wise or would the preference not be to have them spaced out a bit ? No particular reason for asking other than curiosity. Toto
  10. I still sometimes find myself turning my body core rather than just following mymodel by turning my neck. This usually means I'm over shooting the circuit. Same if I am having to lift my head too much ...... definitely too close ( overhead ) to the pilot stance. Just getting used to your spacial awareness and circuit references. Toto
  11. Anyone any experience of the boomerang EP version ? What I would like to know is do you have to remove the wing to replace the battery or is the front screen a hatch. Again preferably with reference to the specific EP version. Cheers Toto
  12. Not today I won't....... Absolutely abysmal weather up here in Scotlandshire. Horrible day that will only please the ducks. I need a plan to keep myself amused for the day. Toto
  13. Just ordered some on amazon. Time to give it a go. Cheers Toto
  14. Thanks for the operating instructions tothelink Grumpy ..... much needed ..... Toto
  15. just caught your post Ron. There you go ........ I am aware that you can ( on some chargers ) limit the voltage that you try to reach .... I think so that you don't overcharge. .... I have ( at the moment ) no idea how to do this. I'm just dipping my toe in at the moment and my ability to take on some of this information is diminishing with age I think. A City and Guilds in Electrical Installation ( from when I was in my teens .... not yesterday ) and an Honours Degree in Building Economics & Quantity Surveying I hope demonstrates my ( past ) ability to soak up relatively technical principles and jargon but I must admit ..... there is more flowing out than is flowing in. 😄 Hopefully I can retain just enough ....... toto
  16. Hi Chris ..... possibly my total misunderstanding of the whole subject. Hence the need to educate myself. I thought that the lower the charge rate, the less stress or heat or whatever placed on the battery and the less chance of overheating or a fire. My very unknowledgeable mindset. hence .... potentially very dangerous to be messing with things I don't understand. I will get my head around it enough to be able to operate as safely as possible given their potential for fires etc. I would like to be able to charge them at a rate that does not necessitate a sleep over in the shed though.😄 cheers toto
  17. The thing is ....sometimes you have to grasp the opportunity when nobody else is trying to monopolise your time. That needs a certain amount of self motivation though that is just sometimes ....... out of reach. A bit like tonight. Think I'll have another beer. toto
  18. In the shed charging batteries which are about done now. Still have to tackle the hinges on the Beaver but have sort of slooooooooowed down. I need to be in the mood and tonight ..... I am not. Just tinkering about really doing the easy stuff in the company of my old friend .... John Smith. Its a holiday weekend so maybe I'll get around to the hinges tomorrow. Still thinking on how I am going to tackle filling in the old hinge slots but think it will be simply epoxy. We'll see. meanwhile ...... back to a conversation with my mate John. toto
  19. Thanks Richard, they have just finished at the 5.0A rate with no issues. I really need to get a better understanding rather than the ..... try it and see approach that I just adopted. .... very risky. However the charge rates on some of these chargers .... intended for up to 6S batteries goes up to 20A. I had heard folks doing 4S batteries at 5.0A without incident .... but the " law of rumour " isn't a great one. The " playing it safe at 1.0 A " approach isn't great either one either as it leads to ridiculously long charging times. At least I am starting to look into it though ...... got to be a good thing. Toto
  20. OK ..... back to something I don't really understand but have been promising myself that I would get a grip of. Charging batteries. I currently ( excuse the pun ) work of two main chargers. An ISDT K2 Air A SMART S2200 G2 both are twin port chargers. I am ( as we speak ) charging some of the following battery types Volts 14.8 volt 30C 4S 3300 mah Lipo Seee 14.8 volt 50C 4S 3300 mah Lipo Normally I have the chargers set to a very safe 1.0A charging rate but noticed that when I switched on my SMART charger, one of the port settings was set to 5.5A charging rate. Is this ok for the battery types above. I have ..... just for the hell of it set both the SMART ports to 5.5 A as I am sure that this is a reasonable charging rate for the batteries but just wanted to check. I am ..... as always..... baby sitting the chargers in my shed as the batteries charge. any quick answers ...... before my shed burns down ...... would be great ...... cough ... cough .... that smokes getting pretty thick ....😆 cheers toto
  21. I dare say all will become clear. Given that all the necessary manoeuvres are being introduced bit by bit into my training sessions, I'm guessing there is a plan / logic behind that. Once they are all in, repeat each until compotent then put them into an overall schedule in the order an examiner would want them ..... once you can perform the schedule satisfactorily, book your test and swat up some more on the questions element. Sounds like a reasonable plan of attack. Toto
  22. I am honestly not trying to rush this. I just need to know where I am heading so I know what I need to do to achieve it. The requirements set out in an A cert or a bronze are pretty well documented but do you have to be ready to actually pass that standard ..... or ...... can you reach a safe standard to be able to practice towards perfecting ? I think the various answers above have sort of answered that ... so I'm not asking again really. .... its a bit of a mixed bag. I'll go with how I am advised from my local club ...... and excellent mentor. Cheers Toto
  23. Thanks for that. I thought it was being suggested that I must be absolute A cert material before I could get to a position where I could put the hours in ( without incumbering a buddy ) to follow my every step. My idea of gaining solo is that you are safe enough to fly alone and perfect your routine towards the test. As I'm sure you will know, part of my restraint has been the lack of a buddy on days when I have been available to fly. I'm getting a little confused as to what I need to be able to do now. Best consult with my mentor as to where I am heading for. Nothing lost so far. Cheers Toto
