  1. Hi, I'm trying to set up the flap system on my dx8 its a 1/3 scale cub with 4 servos on the ailerons and 2 servos on the flaps. The problem I am struggling with is that the TRAVEL on the LEFT FLAP is showing on the TRAVEL SETTINGS SCREEN at 100% and 100% - I can only adjust the right hand value from 0 to 150. The RIGHT FLAP is showing as 59% and 100% - Again I can adjust it from 0 to 100% on the right hand value. There is 0% sub trim set on either side. The Flap system will not operate to the same range on both sides. The servos are identical. The flap system is set at 0% travel at norm. 30% travel at mid 60% at landing. If I set the flaps to the same landing position on the tx - only one side retracts fully in the normal (flight) position. There are no other mixes activated I have turned all switches off other than the flap switch. I dont understand why I have this rogue 59% on the right flap? Can anyone help please? Jez
  2. I ticked always - We were discussing this at the field the other week - many of the other club members couldnt see why - they think just because I fly with the Dawn Patrol with up to 15 other 1/3rd scale planes in front of big crowds that I must be impervious to nerves. Dawn Patrol is some of the most relaxing flying I do - I know the strengths and weaknesses of everyone I fly with, we have really competent pilots and we fully communicate at all times. We have set manouvers and processes for taking off, landing and incidents. In the years we have been displaying we have never mid-aired. I think because of his I get quite nervous when flying alongside people I dont know at club level. It worries me when you are flying in the same circuit as someone else and they suddenly do a bunt which brings their model too close to mine etc. I personally think nerves is a good thing - no nerves leads to complacency, cockiness and risk taking. These lead to crashes. Weirdly the other type of flying I really relax into is when I'm instructing - I love it!! If I could get a paid job teaching people to fly RC I would be in heaven.. Jez
  3. I also have a damaged one of these in the work shop. I'm doing a full strip and recover as it had been hung in the rafters of a barn befor reaching me. Can you possibly post a photo of the plan of the fus where the horizontal stab and fin attach - the model I have just has the stab glued to the stringers...luckily it hadnt flown! Jez
  4. Hi   I've had two...both when I have been deadstick and completely unable to do a thing about it.   First time was years ago...I was deadstick on finals and a clubmate flew his wot4 fullchat into mine..total loss.   The second annoyed the hell out of me..It was at the 2010 Southern Model show at Hop Farm. During the lunchtime trainer session I had been giving people trial flights with my 1/4 scale Super Cub. As it was under show conditions all the pilots had spotters. My cub being larger than the rest of the usual artf trainers in use was being flown high to avoid what was a pretty crowded sky. Anyhow, after about 40 mins in the air I ran out of fue and dead sticked, I called Deadstick and went off downwind, I then called "Deadstick landing from the left "which was repeated by my caller. As I turned onto finals I was hit full speed by some donkey flying a trainer very low and fast. The things that really grated on me were the fact that what on earth was the pilot doing as it was supposed to be a trainer slot for people who had never flown rc before - why was he flying like that?... and what was his spotter doing? but more infuriating was the fact the other pilot never even approached me to apologise. All I do know is it was one of the Reds from the funfighter display team. The Cub was a complete write off - damaged the 26cc Zenoah too. I'm still p'eed off about it to this day! Needless to say I didnt do the trainer slot this year.   In my view its lack of thought and lack of communication that usually causes midairs, I fly with the Dawn Patrol and despite having up to 15 x 1/3 scalers in the air at once, weve never had a mid air, and have recently been practicing opposition passes etc. Pilots who have the usual mid air always seem really suprised its happened....   Jez Edited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 09/10/2011 16:15:55
  5. Hi all... What a top event!! I've done nearly all the shows this year with the Dawn Patrol, and for pure variety of A/C flown and the relaxed atmosphere - this show topped them all by miles!!  The only down sides were losing Dave Whiston's 1/3 scale BUSA pup due to the rigging wire failure - CRACKING PHOTOS btw!! Even the motor and reduction drive were damaged..airframe may be repairable - a full strip of the covering required. Oh -plus we ran out of beer on sat night..  Weather was superb today -  A really big thanks to Greenacres members for running an ace event...looking forward to nextmonths YT event  Jez -
  6. oooops - now posted in right year.... Firstly a big WELL DONE to Steve and the Team.. Thx also to all who have commented on the Dawn Patrol Slots - nice to be appreciated..it was a big gusty on Sunday and we suffered a couple of incidents landing crosswind.. My take on Weston this year...not as good as usual to be honest...  Highs were the big 262 and the pylon racer jobbies flown by Ali and co. The Pyro sloys were ace but the testing of a noisy one during saturdays pilot briefing made us all jump!! The heli nightime display was great. The Reds were entertaining as usual. The Banner pick -up by the Pawnee was brilliant. The PItts Pair were average and the full size glider dull cos I've seen it too much at Weston. The mass launch of EDF was fun to watch - I usually detest little lecky slots but the sheer number made it a chuckle..  However...I too found the prevalence of Elan type jets and medium to large aerobatics boring....It seemed to be aeros, jets, aeros, jets, aero jets and then an interesting slot followed by more aeros and jets...  I admit I like scale stuff- The TJD boys were ace but there didnt seem to be more Big WW2 stuff. What ever happened to all the big Lancs, BIG spits and other Scale Stuff....I walked up and down the entire flight line many many times the weekend - -it was so dull - a riot of colour yes but mainly ARTF jets and Aeros... I consider myself very fortunate to be able to participate with the Dawn Patrol at a great many shows - it seems that fewer and fewer Non LMA shows attract a big number of Scale type A/C....Why is this?  There also seemed to be a few slots that just involved two or three magnums or deltas - not much spectacle to this.  So what could be done to improve the show then for me..  Demos of stuff like pylon and control line.I love the idea of a silly comp like limbo or balloon popping A big aero flying a proper schedule - Steve Mallinder type stuff..Unique slots like the Wing Walking duo of Steve Holland with the Brietling Stearmans. Even a club slot showing what "normal" folk fly would be better than endless repeats..  In a nutshell more variety please!!! This however relies on the pilots of A/C like these to step up and participate....  I've cut back this year on shows due to fuel costs etc.... Is this a sign of things to come?  Jez

  8. Hi, I recently purchased an ARTF model from Glens. I Thought the quality of the kit and the finish was fanatastic - the supplied horns, fittings etc were first class too. Unfortunately today after 3 or 4 flights I suffered an airframe failure in mid air which resulted in a crash that totalled the airframe, but luckily none of the gear or engine. The failure wasnt due to design, but a factory assembly error - A one off friday afternoon job! I phoned Glen who asked a few questions about the build and throws I was using, servo's used etc. I sent a couple of pictures of the failed item and immediately recieved the offer of a replacement kit which will be with me next week. From my call to him to offer of replacement was less than one hour!! I have never been so impressed with the speed of resolution of a concern. I have twice before had problems with other suppliers and it has taken weeks of calls, e-mails, threat of small claims etc to obtain satisfaction. With Glen there was no messing around saying I had to send bits back for inspection at my cost, no delays while the factory investigates etc..    Top Customer Service in my book!!! Jez
  9. Hi  Do you have picks of any that would have been on Sopwith Props - especially pups  Thx.
  10. Santa forgot me at Christmas - And I wasnt naughty - honest!!! Jez
  11. Hmmm just go on the LMA forum and read some of the posts made by newbies and the subsequent replies..... Eliteist Arrogant Too far up their own LMArses for their own good if you ask me.. Just my humble opinion.
