  1. We live on a windy Island, get used it!   On the plus side its definitely easier to land when the wind is blowing to slow you down, try landing a slippery 4.5lb F22 EDF when its dead calm, the only way to get it on the patch is to practise high alpha landings, but that's another story   Tom
  2. Well of the brief couple of seconds of actual model footage it looks extremely tempting!   How many Watts will I need Tony, I don't think 1800 will be enough at 15lb, but if I can get the weight down to 12lb...   Tom
  3. Mine will be Electric, if I decide to build it     Tony where is all this extra weight coming from? You mention the glass finish, what weight cloth did you use? I have had good success with 25g light weight cloth. Also did you need much ballast in the nose?   Cheers   Tom
  4. I found the Miss Wind 50E review interesting, especially the poor performance of the Hacker speed controller, 70A rated and it fried itself at 63A, also the Hacker battery was rubbish, only 1300W @ 63A, my favourite Turnigy 30C 4.0Ah battery does 1400W @ 60A !   Glad the magazine reviews this stuff so that I can stay away from the rubbish, nice plane though!   Tom
  5. Yeah Paul commented that the tail is a PITA and he ended gluing it on permanently I think, bit annoying when the model is supposed to be transportable in a rucksack for those hard to reach slopes. He has already taken his to the top of Ingleborough, which is about an hour's walk with young legs, I was up there on the MTB on Sunday, as usual whenever I decide to go MTBing its always perfect sloping weather, this is where the Gulp ST will come in handy, if I ever finish it!   The carbon ailerons covered in greaseproof paper were a big mistake, I had to get a belt sander out to sand away the resin impregnated paper, oh well live and learn   Tom
  6. Looks good, don't forget the ballast, she'll need it! Ask me how I know   Tom
  7. Well Paul's finished his already, Video ,  so I better make a start on mine again  This is what stalled me last time, laminating the flaperons with carbon fibre cloth, well its done now, hopefully they will turn out OK and don't warp. Has cost me nearly an 1oz in finishing epoxy so I hope the extra weight is worth it. Flaperon servos next. Tom
  8. No worries Martyn, I'll bring a Zagi for next time  Here are a few snap shots, excuse the grinning idiot, thats me
  9. Hi Tim, thanks for yesterday, was good to meet up and put a face to a name and all that Blizzard all glued back together, it keeps on flying as always. Funny thats the 2nd time in a row I've had a mid-air flying at some elses site, last time was when I went to Leek & Moorland, will be more careful next time!   Will post the photo tonight when I'm at home, will come again and stay a little longer next time (and bring the bigger toys!)   Cheers   Tom
  10. What do you want to charge and how quickly?   If it was just LiPo and A123 and you want to be able to charge up to 10A on  8 cells ( 8A on 10 cells) then I would recommend the Cell Pro 10s Charger, its my current favourite charger. They are expensive at £130 but you get a very safe and competent charger which will tell you the IR of the cells and you can connect it to your PC for Firmware updates and recording graphs on the charge rates of the batteries (if thats your thing) only annoying thing is having to buy additional adaptors for the balance connectors.   Tom
  11. Hi Prop, yes its all fixed and I have hopefully learned from my mistake so I don't do it again Spent the last fortnight fixing my Artist F3F glider, hopefully going to re-maiden her tonight after work if the weather plays ball.   Hi Chris, looking forward to flying at your great field, plenty of space to land compared to the precision spot landings I have to do at my own club field   Tom
  12. I might come Saturday if the weather's not bad, will be bringing my F22  Tom
  13. There is some more info on the Hunter on their website looks really nice   Tom
  14. Doh, I new it would be simple  Sounds like a plan, will go for the Jepe Mirage and maybe get the Thorpe F20 plan for a winter build project. The 8s fan should be plenty for now I have plenty of 4s packs and a HV ESC as well, so do you recommend the glass fibre thrust tube as well that he is now supplying?  Jepe told me he's gettting some decals in for his current 8s Mirage that he is building there is a photo of the real thing in black and white tiger stripes should look good when he is finished.  Tom
  15. Cool, have always fancied Aerotowing my 4M Vega, it has a tow release but I don't know how it works, just a hollow tube with a tapered metal plug connected to a servo, guess it traps the tow line in there somehow. Don't worry about the Schubey and I wasn't going to get there Hawk either although its very nice. Its probably going to be a Jepe Mirage with retracts on 8s, although I still want that Savex L39 or Jet-Teng Hawk I just don't have the runway, although I havn't bashed any balsa in a long time and the Thorjet F20 is mighty tempting and very cheap if I went bungee!  Will make a decision pretty soon, or might just give in and buy another Mouldy, my Artist F3F is nearly ready to go again just finishing glassing the slip on nose cone, filler drying at the moment  Tom
  16. Cheers for that Dusty, there not cheap but still cheaper than £2k turbine, love the glider she looks a minter. Do you slope soar it or aero tow?   Tom
  17. Hey I never new we had a British Jet Kit manufacture, Thorjet wonder if they are still trading?   They do a nice F20 for ICDF, wouldn't be too hard to convert to EDF with a nice big Stumax fan in there
  18. Yeah its a sweet hawk, three colour options Black, Red or White Jet-Teng Hawk  Would be nice if there was a UK importer, supposedly Wemotec in Germany were going to be the European dealer but its not on their website yet.  Tom
  19. Hi Dusty, as you know I'm a big fan of the glassed foamy, love flying my F22 its very nice and will probably do a Mirage next as a cheaper option, but I'm still thinking of somthing more jet like without springing for a real turbine for the future. My short list is looking like a Savex L39 or a JTM Hawk, JTM do an L39 as well so will have to compare it against the Savex.  I'm not really sold on a Shubey fan yet because of the noise, but they sure are efficient and I havn't ruled them out so anthing else you can find out please post, its all part of the research  Surprised you didn't go electric on the big aerobat, fancied somthing different? Didn't know you were a fellow glider guider, tell me more!  Tom
  20. No Stumax is just building a Super Sniper 90 to test his new 90 fan in, shame you had to sell all your jets to move to the states, still at least you'll be able to replace them when you get there . Must get Chartered one of these days, always putting it off and building planes or MTBing instead - no excuse I know  Good look with the Warbirds, I'm sometimes tempted to get one, got a 90 size motor needing a home.
