  1. It was precisely because I understood that the magazine sees itself as independant that I thought it worth suggesting publishing advice. As far as I'm aware, GC/GS are the only UK suppliers of these propellers and it's usual for the press to talk to importers for product queries, isn't it? Edited By Martin Harris on 06/06/2012 13:57:16 Have a look at the 4-max website!
  2. Thanks, again, for the info Devon Flyer. Ok have bee studying to build manual and probably over thinking things but when CW taping the wings do I either a) Cut the tape cleanly to the edge of the wing and glue the wing halves epp to epp? OR b) Cover the wings completely in CW tape and glue the wings together CW tape to CW tape. Option a makes more sense but as I have been wrong before I just wanted to be sure.
  3. Hi All Had a chat with Alan and ordered a Fusion 46 - I prefer the tail. Alan advised that no real difference when it came to flying the model. Also it means I have a pair of fusions - I have the 60 size in the loft that I'd forgotten about . Thanks for the link to the battery Mr D Flyer - do I still need to cycle the battery before use? Oh in answer to my original question - Alan advised that it is unlikely to accept a 6.0v humped RX battery due to the size of the fuselage. Hopely arrive Thursday/Friday and I can start the build!
  4. Hi Phil Thanks for the info - what I was thinking looking at the online manual. Was looking at the 325 just to be safe side. You now if i have a bad landing/controlled crash.......... Will ask Alan when I call to place the order.
  5. Hi All Apologise if I have missed this in another thread....... I'm looking to order a SAS Wildthing 46 for using off the local cliffs/ridges, I've been bitten by the bug after throwing an easyglider pro electric of a local ridge. Looking through the threads and posts on here I'm thinking that the Wildthing 46 would be a good, rugged, starting point. Was planning on using the following in the build, Hitec HS 325 HB, an AR600 receiver etc. When it comes to the RX battery I was wondering whether i can use a 6.0v pack as opposed to a 4.8v? Will it fit? Main reason was to save on dead weight - other than the pilot
  6. The DX8 does do flapperons, you need to select it as the wing type from the systems menu. The DX8 has both duel ailerons and flapperon settings with only the latter giving you access to the flap menu.
  7. Yeah would have liked to have Tony but I am a budget flyer these days, so have to get what I need. Already tested that on Olly before testing the T-28. Safety bod at the club suggest the test before flying it. Have to admit wasn't my first thought.
  8. I'm replacing the fuselage as the wooden brace at the botton in the battery bay was crumpled and splintered. Bulkhead was cracked, foam around the black bit was compless and part of the side wall of the receiver bay was torn out by the wing. Wing spar was bent and the rear screw had been mount was torn on the left wing. Nosed straight into the ground, under power as the throttle was unresoponsive. Chose to replace it to be on the safe side. No Pics, the memory are bad enough! Thanks for the washer info Tony, need to swap them over.
  9. Hi All Given that I now know the cause of the crash of my Riot on it's maiden flight, I need to advise on a possible issue - I may just have been unlucky! In the Riot, as the photos on the front page show, there is a small circuit board that runs a power take off to the light and to the Y lead for the ailerons. The servo extension lead that ran from the underside to the receiver was faulty. The signal pin in lead was pushed back/out when it was attached and came loose on take off, certainly causing a loss of aileron control. I also lost control to the elevator and rudder when I took off, so I think it caused a short and the receiver lost power. As the battery detached in the resulting crash I couldn't see if the receiver did have a brown out. - Specky ar500. The receiver was swapped into a Parkzone Trojan and behaved flawlessly for the rest of the day - so not a receiver fault. I did the usual preflight checks and all was well and moving when tested - as it did on the range check. I was planning to attach the circuit board to the gear switch so I could remotely control the lights and have the ailerons plugged straight into the receiver, which is how I did the initial checks in the house. Note to self - always check all leads on PNP/BNF/RR kits! A bit annoyed at the £35 +P&P it cost me for the replacement fuselage - and the battery hatch was suck down when it arrived! When removing and refitting the elevator and rudder push rods the easiest way to refit them is via the servo lead hole for the ESC lead, other wise they end up slightly curly! The two of the motor screws have washers behind them - can someone confirm which ones, I think they are on the right hand side - as viewed from the rudder - to set the trust line of the motor. It is almost rebuilt and hope to fly it on Sunday.
  10. Hi Conwy Soarer Just wanted to say thanks fro the info on the soaring sites in the link above. Myself and a friend chucked a couple of easy gliders of a cliff for the first time, last night, and I have to say that it has produced a rather large grin! Will definately be doing it again. James
  11. Hi All Changed the search options in google a bit - I can't spell to day And came up with the following link. Pays to spell check even the simplest of things!
  12. Hi All I have a couple of multi-chemistry chargers and was wondering if I can charge a 12v car battery with them? And what would the charge current need to be, if it is possible. One of the chargers is a icharger 208b and the other is a Bantam BC6-10. Or would a generic car battery charger be needed? P.S. I'm a little skint as I've had to replace some aging lipos recently and keen to avoid further expenditure if possible.
  13. I'd go for a 700-800 size electric heli with lots of bats and chargers! And a large scale - electric - DH Mosquito. Eflite Scimiter + retracts! New car/van to carry everything! And a new transmitter and .............. I could go an for ever!
  14. Hi All   Got worried that I had an issue with my "old school" DX8 - Still shows DSM2 logo!   TX rebooted whilst I was in the mixing screens looking at the programming for my Radian Pro - happened twice! Found this on the forums - it is a firmware bug.   Shouldn't be an issue when flying - unless you are mixing in flight!   Never had an issue with the TX and it had to go back for the gimble and DSM2 bugs!   Only thing I wish it has is better glider mixing, but would recommend to all. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  15. Hi Spice   Can't just be the BB if the PC is taking a age to boot.   Performance issues can be anything from the simple to ridiculas, from the notes you have left I'd say that a program is running in the background hogging the PC processor.   Try CRTL+ ALT+DEL and go to the task manager and select processes and see what is running (you may need to select processes from all users down the bottom.     @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  16. Nice! Do I need it ? Possibly not! Do want it ? Yes! Why - Glider mixing!   I have the DX8 and trying to run a 4 channel wing looks to be a nightmare! I'd have gladly sacrificed 10 model memories for more mixing options! Thinking about it I'd pay a token fee to have it upgraded by HH, like they are offering to do with the DSM2 DX6i to DSMX.   Here's hoping that something will change, it is sorry state of affairs when you have the Hitec Optic 6 being able to do things like Crow Breaking but "the worlds most advanced 8 channel" radio can't!............Ok it can but not with the same simplicity!
  17. Hi All Thanks for linking me into this thread Steve W-O   Do like the sound of the Mentor and a two piece wing sound great!   But would it fly on a E Flite Power 15 Motor with a 3s ?? (Have enough grunt to do a bit more than circuits!)
  18. Hi All   My Innovator had an argument with a power line cable by the field and has sadly lost the ability to fly! But thankfully the power train, servos and receiver all survived and are looking for a good home.   Requirements, needs to be able to get me through an a cert - been flying 4 years as never go around to it due to work, weather etc! - and all my other air frames are below the 1kg weight limit! Small car friendly!   Some ideas but not sure if they are suitable for the motor. (Prefer a good flyer to a good looker!)   1) Multiplex Mentor - always had a soft spot for it but never got around to owning one! 2) BlackHorse Liberty 182 3) Phoenix Classic EP 4) ??   Ideas would be greatly received! @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);

    Storm Help

    Hi all   Before we start I have dropped the nice folk down at flyingwings.co.uk an email and a waiting a response but......................   .........................I have a 50inch flying wing called "Storm" from flyingwings.co.uk and have lost the manual. The craft has been discontinued by them and I'm in the process of recovering it and looking to fly it again but I need the COG!   Anyone have a copy of the manual they can e mail me or post the COG in here ??   James @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  20. Ok thoughts on performance from Sunday's flying.   TX worked well and had no noticeable drop in voltage during the days flying! OK weather wasn't great but the TX was on for a fair bit - mainly as I forgot to turn it off a couple of times and the thing went mental to remind me that it had been inactive!   I also seemed to get better range on the tx also. I have a Parkzone T-28 on an AR6100e and can only fly so far before control is lost - have had a long walk on a couple of occasions now and will admit to pilot error on my part! But on Sunday i went beyond where I normally turn in, due to a dead stick landing being called and turned back in after a few seconds and had no loss of signal. I repeated and counted to 10 and still OK. Was tempted to go for a longer count but decided that safety was the better part experimentation and held off.   OK the count was fairly quick, so more likely a 5 second flight at half throttle beyond the normal range but still more range is always a good thing!   I will see how I get on over the next few weeks flying but guessing that the effect was due to the increased voltage providing a more stable output!   Noticed something similar on the DX6i the lower the battery charge the less range I had, also the quality of the batteries had an effect also! I started with 1500mha rechargeable bats and moved to 2100mha batteries later on and always had better performance and range from the higher capacity batteries.   I wonder if the tx's range is effected by available voltage, in the same way an electric motor looses power as the batteries voltage drops under load near the the end of their charge or a low c rating battery can only give so much current before failing.   If I get time, at the field, next time I'm there, I'll see the range difference between the two packs, using range check on the floor to avoid accidence and injury to others!   Could some of the brown outs we have been seeing be related to poor TX power source??
  21. Hi All   The nice Mr Pat delivered mine this morning.   Fitting is a doddle but you have to remove the bottom foam padding! Took a few seconds for me to realise.   Then into the systems menu and change battery type to lipo - won't let you do it before hand.   You can set the cut off voltage in that menu also!   So far so good, will test it more at the field on sunday, weather permitting but was working well with my msr in the lounge.   @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  22. Hi All   Just ordered one!   Was going to order a Spektrum one but as this is ALOT cheaper - worth a punt.   Will keep the NiMH as a backup.   Now, when do I change the settings - before or after swapping ?? James @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  23. Hi Tim   Sorry for your loss, but on the plus side the DX8 and AR500 are a good combination - I have a few AR500 receivers in service!   Had something similar on a Seagull Innovator - but this was a build fault on my part!   The 50amp ESC i was using has a linear bec 1.5 amp that was in an enclosed space above the battery - no cooling.   First flight was ok as i was just trimming and checking the flight characteristics, 2nd flight i was pushing it around the sky and flapping the servos quite hard. The whole plane shut down for a few seconds and started back up!   On inspection the ESC was a bit on the warm side! Moving over to a 60amp ESC with a switched BEC which should help with the cooling side of things and stop the issue.   The part that worries me is that i have two of those motors on the shelf and was planning to put one into a Seagull Decathlon - any way of checking prior to flight if i have a duffer ??   James @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
