  1. hi there i thought i'd put my five eggs in!! I have built for over 50 years now, and i also have many artf's that i have bought new and second hand (usually pranged!!) because the previous owner couldn't repair them. My biggest finding is that there is very little glue in any joints, so i always make a point of 2 part epoxying the fire wall area heating it up and swilling it around to get in everywhere. It also acts as a fuel proofer. Last month i put my H9 Spitfire in. (My fault) The cowl was twisted and broken the fire wall came away, nearly every joint in the fuse sprung open, but it allowed me too repair the model and it flew again last Sun. If I had built this model and glued every joint as I would normally do, I'm sure it would have broken the wood as opposed to the joints springing open. So it might not have been so easy to repair. So maybe there is a positive side to Chinese engineering! I have also just repaired an E-flite Brio with nearly the same accident damage (not mine this time) and I have also seen a Sebart Model that went in with the same problems that is all the joints have sprung open half way up the fuse. Easily repairable but again the owner just wanted to burn it!!
  2. Hi there,I had a similar problem with an OS 4stroke engine when I went from castor to synthetic fuel and was told that it was the new fuel getting rid of the gum formed by castor and fouling the glow plug! The other thing I thought of is is your clunk a standard one or the type used in petrol engines that actually stop air getting in the fuel line?
  3. Yes mowerman, I've built both veron models from plans and flew them both with EDF, there is a U-Tube of a beautiful FD2, its worth looking at as he had more success than me. the big problem was where to put the batteries in the La. The FD2 was a simple build as far as where to put everything it was Cg problems that caused some head scratching!!BS
  4. Hi all, I have just switched on the computer (08.15hrs) and read the positive comments, as Darren is back at work and it looks like a flying day I thought I'de phone him and tell him of the comments, so he wouldn't feel so bad about working whilst the old man is out flying!! (someones got to pay my pension!!) Anyway he was very pleased to say the least and thanks you all, the same goes for me, thank you for your kind comments. The next time it fly's I will try to get some flying shots, out of interest, apart from the photo taken from behind the plane these were all taken on a phone camera, hasn't technology come a long way!Thank you, BS
  5. her's another of the 81" Tomtit. SC400 five cylinder, Futaba 7C 2.4, solartex natural, sprayed with Halfords wheel silver, decals cut on a Craft Robo 330-20, flys like it looks, BS

  7. hi all, just got back from flying field after a truly gorgeous afternoon of weather and flying, I flew my Veron Tomtit (again!) but more important my son Darren flew his 150% Tomtit for the first time, he just fast taxied it and it took to the air he soon realised just to let it go and he had it under full control with very little trim after a few seconds, he flew it for a few minutes then he throttled back and the engine cut out it seems to only fire on three when throttled back, so was forced to do a dead stick landing but it flew!! I hope attached are two photos of the Beast. BS
  8. Stinson mug please, I can't afford the jamara one or topflite!!!Pretty Please
  9. hi marko,I also have a couple of these receivers have used them on a nitro model and two electric planes range is no problem at all you run out of sight of model first, and on 35 at our field there is a black spot, with these receivers and Futaba 2.4 there is no hint of trouble. i will be having a few more now! Brian

  12. hi beb, thank you, as I said this is the large one with SC400 5cylinder Darren made most of it from plans, I bent the wire and made the cut the nos, roundels etc..I am going to try and load a photo of mine (Small size as per plan) on its first take off on 1/1/11. this one is powered by a SC52FS much to powerful, but we have throttles!. I have installed closed loop on rudder and elevator and bolted on the bottom wing as opposed to bands. Brian
  13. Hi BEB,I have managed to upload some photos of the big Tomtit, please look in my album, I will post mine on its first flight later, Brian

  15. This thread seems to have died, so I'll put in  a little.Today I maidened a Veron Tomtit. No big deal but I am very pleased, it has been a dream to have one since about 1976 when a flying buddy had one for christmas. About that time I met Phil Smith the designer of the kit, over the years my wife and I spent many happy hours at his house where he had the original model, the one on the boxes and ads etc. Phil kindly gave me the plans a couple of years ago but I never seemed to get the interest to cut a kit, then his son Colin told me that a basic ribs, bulkhead etc could be bought from Belair. I bought one ealier in 2010. Also last year the chairman of my flying field passed away and his widow sold his equipment of which there was plenty, I was invited to have a look at what there was there, and, in looking around his hanger amongst the plans was a plan of a one and half size Veron Tomtit designed around a SC400 which he just had in its box never run. As I had already commited to buying some other off the stock I told my son who promptly negotiated with the members in charge of the sale. My son allowed me to start on the small one whilst he looked at  plans of the big one, I changed a couple of things (bottom wing bolted on, closed loop on rudder and elevator). He followed his plan build just behind me so when I had a problem he came to me and we sorted it, the cabane was a bit of a problem for bending but once I sussed it out his larger ones were perfect with the incidence, dihedral etc. (he also bolted the top wing on) Well today I flew it and it was perfect, just like all Phil Smith's designs (I have built plenty!!). In about three weeks, we hope the large Tomtit will take to the air, but there's no rush, we both want to make sure that these two will fly together as a testimony to Phil Smith and the other Phil who was the chairman of our flying field
  16. hi there yes I have flown before about 50 years continuous from early reeds through to 2.4,I've had good and bad results and I have heard a lot of bad about shops, BUT if you approach with a decent fair attitude I've found you get results most off the time in your favour, sometimes it just takes a bit of time, but in this case off the Bulldog I thought it quite exceptional and so placed the message.
  17. I bought a Vmar bulldog for my son last friday(15/10/10) from Channel four Models, found on opening the box a ding in the wing, Saturday morning took the wing to Channel Four models, Bournemouth who said they would ring the importers first thing Monday and phone me with the result.10 am Monday 18/10/10 Ch 4 rang to say it had been sorted, I couldn't ring my son until midday to confirm that is what he wanted, 1.30 Monday 18th I am told the wing will be here tommorrow 19/10/10.Today Tuesday 19th at 3.45 got phone call to say the replacement wing had arrived. Thank you and well done Channel Four Models, Bournemouth and MacgregorIndustries.
