  1. John / Peter, Thanks for the reassurance, I think I'll crack on with the second wing for now and give the trailing edge a good sand and trim to get it nearer the original profile when they're complete - I hadn't thought ahead to how the wing would sit under the fuselage - obvious now you mention it ! So hopefully by the end of February I'll have a pair of wings !! Purple Power
  2. Oops No.2 When I fitted the undercarriage mounting assembly I inadvertently knocked R1 and R1a (I think it is) off square which I didn't notice until the following evening ! Don't know if you can see from the photo but to compensate I applied the "Tactical Sanding" approach to the outer of R1 which probably resulted in taking about 1/32 off the top edge and feathering down, the same approach on the bottom of the Beech block to make sure the surfaces meet well for the epoxy - do you think this will a decent enough fix ?
  3. Oops No. 1 = When I made the ribs I obviously didn't taper the rear to a fine enough point. As a result the 1/8 x 3/8 TE was too thin to make a decnt joint leaving a large step where it attached. To compensate I went up a size to 3/16 x 1/2 TE which fits perfect but the wing is now slightly deeper. So would it be best to trim the TE back or just leave it and make the tip slightly bigger too ?
  4. Looks the part Peter ! So I've made slow progress on the first wing panel but by adopting Peters "Purple Plan" I think it's now at the stage where I can lift it from the board and start on the second wing this weekend. It's just another wing - others have made better I'm sure and definitely quicker so theres not too much to say but I did have a couple of "oops" moments which give it an individual touch . . .
  5. Chris I am making very slow progress by comparison having just about got the first wing panel to a stage where it can be lifted from the board - and I don't have Gaston's antics to compete with ! the "Purple Plan" is definitely the way forward !
  6. That colour combination does look the part Chris, a way to go before I get there but your build keeps the motivation going !
  7. Looking good Craig - you've not got to much more to do on the wings by the looks of it - I've just aboout got the first panel done hopefully start on the second this weekend. With what you've found with the paper tubes think I'll try and get my piano wires to the bellcranks in place before joining the wings keep up the good work !
  8. I've got a couple of cheap carpet tiles stuck to the bench under mine Chris, - does make it a lot quieter allowing me to work on later in the evening
  9. Hi Craig, I've got the little FA40 for mine, I see from you're thread you've gone for the bigger one - Not heard any bad reports about them if they go as good as they look I'll be well happy, not to mention the sound and the smell !! Hows your build coming on ?
  10. Absolutely Chris, its got to be IC for me every time - this is my first four stroke can't wait to get it running ! I'm working off a copy of the plan so I have the original beside me - providing I read it properly should be ok ... I think transposing the reference lines accurately onto the top of the 1/16 sheet is the secret !
  11. That makes a lot more sense of building the wing tip Chris, - really informative blog and great looking build !
