  1. Good morning all.  Like the clean, mean look of the new platform much easier to read.
  2. Whilst serving my apprenticeship during the mid 1940's I was working at an airfield modifying Spitfires.  We had a visitation by a dignitary who asked a Rolls-Royce rep supervising the fitting of a prop "What is the yellow line on each of the blades?" Without cracking a smile the rep replied "They are to indicate a certain fixed distance from the tip of the blade"  This same rep had a 'chant' he would recite whilst tightening unions etc. Two tinks equal one tonk. Two tonks equal one tap. Two taps equal one thump. Two thumps equal ..oh s..t send to Derby for a replacement.
  3. How do I see myself? well, I prefer...  to build in a warm room rather than fly in the cold outdoors (old age)  to fly gliders rather than noisy powered a/c (poor hearing)  to build big (failing eyesight)  but, when I get out on the slopes come summer I have no doubt that I will have a ball   so I must be an antiquated modeller who thinks he is still in his teens. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!
  4.   A Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all.   May the winds be favourable and your batteries long lifed.
  5. Colin, favourite toast in the army was 'to wives and sweethearts,- may they never meet'
  6. Got one flight of about 20 minutes as 'ballast' while the pilot checked out a recent mod.  Just circuits of the 'drome - but it was fantastic.
  7. Served a five year apprenticeship with Supermarine - the middle year was spent servicing and modifying Spitfires at a local airfield - even got to work on the engine squad (they let me clean the flakes of metal from the exhaust stubs) We had a two seat version that was used as a taxi to ferry VIPs about. The sound of a Merlin/Griffon engine is still the sweetest music to my ears. The Spitfire will always be the No.1 plane.
  8. New to this sort of thing, hope I have it right. Cheers Ted
