  1. Measure the voltage, its the only way to tell. 4.2V per cell  fully charged. As timbo says you do not Know how empty it was to start with.
  2. The Extreme Flight 74" Yak 54 flys superbly on a 10S set up. I have a Hacker A60 22S in it with Flightpower F3A 10S packs using a Jeti HV ESC . Just superb. Next year though will see it being fitted with a Petrol motor as I am fed up Paying loads of money for 10S packs. Just to expensive . Unless you are loaded then 10S is far to expensive if you do lots of flying, also to much hassle charging them at the Field.
  3.  First of all sorry that you lost a model, I hate that happening to anyone. I had a lot of problems as well with some Regulators (which is one reason I do not use them) and ESC's and to think of it electric flight in general causing interference on 35meg.I know most of these were solvable with some work but  it was so much easy-er to go the Specy route and solve all of them which it has and like Timbo I fit things in silly places long leads etc  and have no problems whatsoever. I would think in your case the shop owner would ask Did you do a full range test. If not then its asking a bit much to expect them to do anything about it. Perhaps if you had done a full range test then you would have found this problem ,then you could have returned the Regulator and they would have sorted it out. We all know that when changing anything we should carry out a full set of pe-flight tests and a range test should be part of that. We are all guilty at some point of not doing that and sometimes we have to pay the price which it looks like you have in your case.
  4. Al the Destroyer I use crow  in my 26cc ultra stick. Aileron's up flaps down and all still working as ailerons The best I have got so far with it is as the throttle is shut the crow brakes are deployed , as you advance the throttle they reduce until full throttle there is non. You can switch them off altogether. I am using a servo on the throttle but it would not mater if it was an ESC. Also using a 7 channel RX. The crow mix is in the glider section under butterfly. It took me a couple of hours to sort it but all the info was in the book. The throttle gets plugged into aux 2. Simon
  5. Nice one Derek. Glad that it is all sorted and working Fine. Simon
  6. Timbo . What you are saying is that if you DO NOT use the BEC in the ESC to run the radio then remove the red wire that is on the lead that you plug into the throttle channel on the RX..Then you can use the 500ma on board battery to run the radio.
  7. Dose seem a stange thing to do. Makes you wonder what these people think of when they ageed to leve it off.
  8. No trainner switch. I wonder if it has the socket still so it can be used on a Sim.
  9. I have no idea why you can't change it but I do no that If I learnt to fly again I would have learnt on mode 1 . Just think its mutch better . Been trying to teach myself on the sim but the poor old grey matter wont have it.
  10. Hi You say your lipo is giving 11.5 volts fully charged. If this is the case it is not fully charged by a long way. A fully charged lipo will be 4.2v per cell so three cells makes 12.6v. You need to see why this is not so, charger fault is most likely. As for powering the RX the ESC should  drop the voltage down using a BEC to the correct voltage usually  around 5v . If it is showing 11.5v across the receiver connections then I would have thought there was a fault in the ESC Bec. Your RX will not like 11.5v across it that's for sure.  Simon
  11. I have been using 2x A123 cells direct with no regulator but 2 High quality switches in parallel  on 2 of my 50cc models with no probs at all most of this year, using Spectrum Rx and a mix of Hitec and JR digitals. I never ever use 4 cell packs on my Spectrum gear only 5 cell or 2x A123, perhaps one reason I have never had a single Glitch or fault with it since it came out. Also on models  using High torque servos I always use 2 switches and Sub C or 2/3 rd Sub C  packs that hold there voltage under load not like a lot of AA packs which drop there voltage under load. Not a fan of regulators just something else to go wrong.Just my views and works Perfectly for ME.
  12. The FMA cellpro charger takes the ambient temperature into account when charging and will only charge to 4.1v per cell at lower temps. Clever some of these chargers.
  13. As I said before I am sure you will love it.  As with all models there are good and bad points and also everyone has a different opinion. the main thing is that it is the right model for you. Its a good design. reasonably well made flys on a 46 so a good engine for your next model and takes all standard radio gear. It will also easily get you through your A test and if you can fly properly using all 4 axis of the TX it will take you through the B. The same however can be said for Half a dozen other trainers. In my opinion which always starts a war the best thing to do is  buy a Chris Foss W4 classic kit,  build it yourself  fit it with a 46 and learn to fly on that on a buddy box.. Good luck. Keep the questions coming.
  14. Great model as far as trainners go. Taught lots of people to fly on one. Our club used to have one as there club trainner and that lasted very well. If you are flying from grass it might be worth you converting it to a tail dragger.  Fit it with a 46 and not a 40 . I helped out  building an electric one a while ago which flew very well on a 4S setup.
  15. Don,t worry. It is not a problem. There is not enough content in the silver film to affect the radio signal. My Tiger moth uses silver profilm as the base with paint on top of that with no problems on spektrum
  16. His kits are always good quality. That's one of the reasons he is still going. There used to be a thread with lots of little mods that made it fly much better. Included moving the position of the tailplane I think. Perhaps someone will have a link to it.
  17. Now start moving it back . You will be amazed at wot it can do with the  CG 2" further back. Just make sure you have got the rates set. I have just put servoes in the top wing as well and am experimenting with so strange mixes. Trying to get it set up with crow brakes, which is working fairly well but needs a bit more fine tuning. Great model though.
  18. Can't see the point in mix and match TXs  Go to 2.4 or stay on 35meg ,simple as that.
  19. Personal preference is what its all about really. Both good systems. I had always flown with Futaba , but I  went the Spektrum /JR route. I just like the system better , much more choice in RXs and I like the features it has. If I was to do it all over again I would do the same thing and I recommend the Spektrum over the Futaba because I like it better. They both have good points and bad. Just like buying a Car . I have now upgraded the TX to the JR9x which which uses the Spektrum system and I love it. Best radio I have had and I sold my   9ZAP w/c to help pay for it.
  20. How is the casulty getting on. Takes a while to get better from that I would have thought.
  21. Big well done . Great feeling when you achieve what you want. Bet that was the most nervous flight you have had for a while
  22. I think it was a great model. I flew my one on a 4S set up. I sprayed it with a coat of satin varnish, added a pilot and a few small details and it looked stunning. I did not use the clevisis and threaded ends as all green models have a reputation of poor quality fittings. You will love it. It needs to be flown all the time and you need to use the rudder. Have a lot of fun with it.
  23. Most radios that can do this have a mix for it. My 9zap did and my DSX9 has . I would have thought without the correct mix you are not going to do it.
  24. Its great when bits start ariving, gets you thinking about the build. Not long now then.
  25. I mount many of my motors with the same idea. I use 4mm studding with no problems at all. I know it looks like its not up to the job but it is and works really well.
