matt jarvis
If you up scale from a smaller plan, is the balancing point on the new larger build the same ? I have completed a build like this and need to balance the plane. The wingspan is 55" and the balancing point is 8.5 cm from the leading edge of the top wing. With the 1800 lipo installed, the plane balances with a small amount of nose up with my fingers under the planse balancing points. Should I use the balancing points from the plan with a little added weight to the nose?
Bruce Richards
Yes the balance point is in the same place but scaled up. Sound like you need some nose weight to balance slightly nose down, which is the preferred attitude.
Martin Harris - Moderator
Remember that the C of G is a 3 dimensional point i.e. not just a point somewhere on a line along the longitudinal axis but also on the vertical and lateral axes. What this means is that depending on the layout of the model, a small amount of nose up can mean the C of G actually being quite a long way back from the point it's hanging from so it is important that you set it level or slightly nose down.
