001
We have had a 14" LCD television in the spare room for about 5 years. It is rarely used. It runs off a 12v power spply. Recently I turned the TV on and there is no picture and the standby light flashes, there is a noise on the speakers at the same frequency. (Not as fast as 50 hz.) I tried looking on the internet for a solution with no result. Tried turning the set off, holding the standby button on the remote in etc. No good..... So I then checked the output of the power supply with a digital meter on DC. Steady 12.76 volts. Found the exact same TV, with power supply, used, on Ebay nearby, so bought it. I put it on the same 12v cable and the 'New TV' was doing exactly the same. So quickly swapped over to the 'new' power supply and all is OK. So I now have to explain to the wife why I have bought another TV !!! Any ideas why the power supply is causing a problem?
Steve W-O
A switch mode PSU would normally give 12V when tested, so probably faulty and drops voltage on load. Tell her that a new PSU from the manufacturers is more than what you paid for the whole thing on ebay so you saved money
001
Thanks Steve. It did save me buying a new TV at around £100 - 120, now I have two working TV with one PSU.
