airfoils

Is there any merit in building a wing that utilises different airfoils in different sections of the wing.

ie a semi symmetrical ( or symmetrical) shape in the centre third of a wing to help cut through the air without the flat bottom wing ballooning effect. with a flat bottom airfoil at the tips of the wing producing more lift at the tips (to help prevent tip stall and add stability)

or is this a waste of time as the overall effect of the sections just average out

best wing for sports use was designed by Skyways, for their plan pack series, they utilesed a symetrical section, with progressive symetrical toward the tip, this gave, in efect, washout, but was much superior to using the same section, on the full size Zlin Trener, it was symetircal at the root, and UNDERCAMBERED at the tip--go figure that one!!
