Marky
Hi all, sorry for the belated posting but does anyone have a spare copy of a destruction manual for a Sportsman Aviation Spitfire, 64" w/s. Many thanks, Mark.
Tim Mackey
I have one - but not sure which bit you need - as I would have to copy the pages.
Marky
Hi Tim, That's very kind of you, Thanks, Sadly I'm missing the whole thing as I purchased the airframe minus a few bits and pieces for charity, The kit appears to have been partially started then stored in a very dusty place for years and graduallly parts nicked off it for use in other planes so I fear I'll need the whole manual. I'll happilly reimburse you for any costs of course. Thanks again, Mark.
Tim Mackey
Well due to to time and other restraints, I cant copy the whole thing, but will happily send it to you, if you will get it copied, and return the original to me. Hows that ?If so, PM with your address.
Tom Doyle
Hope it's OK to add to this topic after such a long time but I've just completed a Sportsman Aviation Spitfire which I bought a few years ago. My choice of motor up front is a Saito 82. After several frustrating hours trying to get the mechanical retracts to work, I binned them in favour of a set of Horizon Hobbies electric retracts which cost more than the model, but worth every penny. What I am alarmed about is the 14oz of lead needed up front to acheive CoG. Is this normal? It will take all up weight to just over 8lbs. Another niggle. The cockpit canopy is very brittle, after all this time I don't suppose spares are available? If not, will a canopy from another kit fit? Ian Jones
Hi Tom, Nice to see you visiting here again. I hope you get answers to your questions. I made a quick check though and it seems there's 6ozs difference in the weight of Saito 82a & ASP91 which Tim was recommending. That accounts for nearly half the weight you have had to add. Tom Doyle
Thanks for info Ian. Although not quite ready to fly, it is ready for your static display on Saturday. Tom
Bucksboy
Tom, I had one of these and it flew beautifully and I regret selling it. I agree that the underside blue covering was horrendous so I repainted it and flew it for a season or two. I then stripped off all the covering and covered it in Solartex and repainted it. I removed the wheels and dolly launched it. I've since tried to buy another one several times with a view to adding the correct orientation retracts and flaps but have been unsuccessful. I had an even bigger engine, a Thunder Tiger 91, it hauled it around the sky easily. I can't remember if I needed any lead to balance it. It was a really good plane, I bought it from Wings and Wheels from Ripmax 'cheapy' sale. I hope you enjoy flying it.
Tom Doyle
Thanks Bucksboy, I'll report back after first flight or two. Shame you can't remember about using any lead up front. How about the AUW of your model? The blue underside doeasn't really bother me but then, I'm not a scale purist! Tom
Bucksboy
Tom, Sorry, all lost in the distant mist of time. Apart from its undercarriage swinging the wrong way, it had a really good look of a Spitfire. Hence my wish to find another. I think its too old a model now to have a chance of finding another. Good luck with it. Bucks
Ian Jones
I have read that this aeroplane and the Jamara Spitfire 60 are one and the same, just different badges but I can't confirm it. It does seem that the Jamara was around for some time longer and that if you fancy a trip to Cyprus you might even get one.
Tim Mackey
Yup, Ian is correct they are the same. Mine ended up over 8 pounds, as I added onboard glow, pneumatic retracts, new paint job ( I hated the underside blue too!) guns and lights etc - it still flies great at that weight, so dont worry
