Scott La Vallee
Hi There I have just been given her ladyships blessing to go and get a new plane have narrowed it down to either the new DYNAM extra 300 or the J PERKINS SU31.Has anyone come across these, built or flown them cause I cant decide.Any other suggestions would be good as well.Cheers
David Ashby - Moderator
Is that the foamie J.Perkins SU31? Scott?
Scott La Vallee
yes David it is I prefer the look of the extra but there is something about the SU
David Ashby - Moderator
If it's the SU I've seen then although on the face of it there's a lot in the box, the model was discontinued by Perkins earlier this year. Don't quote me but I believe there may have been quality issues...We like the Seagull Extra, good value at £60 and flies very well, Can you manage to a SebArt Katana 30e? Absolutely fantastic model that one although more expensive..Havn't come across the Dynam?
Scott La Vallee
Nice looking plane assuming you mean the S30E, I would rather go for an EP foam 3d to start with less matchsticks, althought the Cermark 1m Katana looks good as well and more persuadable for her ladyship
David Ashby - Moderator
Multiplex Acromaster...
Scott La Vallee
I like the look of the Acromaster, any recommendations for powertrain, or the other alternative ( built up ) would be the Ultrafly extra although I would prefer a foamie, (strange I know)
David Ashby - Moderator
We reviewed the Acromaster a few issues ago, the stock Multiplex set-up is very good. The Ultrafly model is ok but needs separate wing servos to make it come alive , it's smaller than the Acromaster and less rugged. Go for the Acromaster. Scott La Vallee
Thanks for the advice David depending on the finance minister I will probably end up with the Acromaster by the looks of things, silly question I am using 3s1p 20C 2200mAh and 1800 lipo's at the moment will I need to up grade them as well? David Ashby - Moderator
They should be fine Scott - our reviewer used 3S 2100 Li-Po's - I think the current draw from the normal motor types used on the model should pull less than 40 amps, but check. J B
You may be right about the quality David,my motor was noisey and vibrated like a good'un at full power although at 1/2 power it seemed ok. A new motor was fitted and all was well until 5 minutes into the first flight when there was a bang.and vibration again.on inspection it was found that the motor had pulled a mounting screw out of the bulk head, hence the bang as it hit the prop, a 1/8 birch ply bulk made and fitted and what a transformation, it fly greats from walking pace to flat out, I managed to get three 6 minute flights out of 1 charge so the duration is there. If they could sort the quality out it would be brillient.
