Can anyone help me Please !!

I have a Ripmax Saturn 6 channel transmitter and would like to bind it with a AR600 receiver.........is this possible ? I have just bought a Parkzone Spitfire mark9 BNF from Kings Lynn Models which has the AR600 receiver fitted...... but Idont want to buy another transmitter if its not necessary.

I also bought retracts for the model......Are there any special precautions I need to be aware of regarding this landing gear ??

Help will be most appreciated

I'm afraid that's not possible. The Saturn 2.4Ghz and the Spektrum DSM2 system are not compatible. One of the main problems with 2.4Ghz technology is the incompatibility of the various systems.

The only thing I know about the Spitfire retracts is you need to make sure you've bought the matching undercarriage legs because they're not included in the basic BNF spitfire kit nor the retracts kit.

Thanks for the advice Ben,

one more pick your brain time!!.....a 6channel receiver came with the saturn 6. is it worth changing the AR600 for this one so I can use the tx.,or do you think I should invest in a Tx that matches with Spectrum technology........what would you do Ben ???

You might as well go ahead and fit the Saturn Rx then you can fly the Spitfire with your current Tx. Note Parkzone and Spektrum are both part of Horizon, hence the BnF versions come Spektrum compatible but they also sell their models in Plug N Play (PnP) format so you can use your own radio gear.

Are you new to 2.4 or RC models in general?

Thanks for your advice Frank......and yes,Iam very new to the rc aircraft world although I have operated rc cars etc but very few rc aircraft......I have a grandson who wants to fly rc planes so this will be a learning curve for us !!.....I got the saturn Tx and Rx along with the phoenix v3 simulation dvd from a friend who said, quite rightly, crash some virtual aircraft rather than the real thing........has the saturn Rx got a decent pedigree ?.........If I did want another Tx to match the AR600 what would you recommend ? at a reasonable price of course ( my yorkshire roots coming out ha ha )

Hope to hear from anyone

If your new to flying then the spitfire is not for you at the moment. I had a friend who like your self had a passion for spitfires , we were both learning and he bought the same bird as yourself.... Crashed. Then an ic ........ Crashed then a bigger size ic and again crashed. Needless to say he now has the ability to fly them but no longer has them!! Spitfires need to be flown fast to keep in the sky even landing. Some one else will no doubt suggest a trainer which will not be the same sexy model the spitfire is but eill enable you develop the skills to fly the sipt in future. Bit like learning to drive. We have a banger car to drive roundin first before getting the car of our dreams.

Good luck and do get some one to buddy lead you!!!

Thanks for your advice Gaz, I will take it on board,

I have been flying a wing dragon 4 RTF for a few months with my grandson now and so far touch wood, no serious mishaps and we also have flew on the phoenix v3 simulator for a few months ...with a crash now and then !!! I liked the look of the mark 9 spitfire,so I bought one, with my grandson in mind !! I will of course get some help regarding extra flying tips that might be required .Have you any thoughts on my last posting ?

I have just joined this website so it is all a bit strange until I get myself tuned in so to speak.

regards to everyone and keep coming with the advice

Regarding your earlier question on the radio gear, I haven't any experience of the Saturn gear, but I'm sure it's adequate for the basic functions. Bear in mind, though, that it's an entry level radio and if you stay in the hobby you'll probably want more functionality, model memories etc. If you want to use the AR600, look at the Spektrum DX6i transmitter. It's fairly cheap, but offers lots of functions for the money and has 10 model memories. It will also make the huge range of bind and fly aircraft available to you.

As others have said, try something a bit less ambitious before the Spit - something with a low wing and ailerons, but sport rather than scale, will be a good stepping stone.

Good luck!

Don't underestimate how quickly the Spit will get away from you, a new flier at our club, who could fly heli's and small depron fixed wing joined and didn't want to get a trainer, so he bought a Parkzone Stinson (high wing mono plane), I test flew it for him, lovely flier, he was OK while it was in the air but damaged it on landing just about everytime, as it was a bit quicker than what he was used to. He went over to a Seagull electric trainer and never looked back, no problems with the Stinson now.

As regards the Saturn Tx, this is a very basic Tx, is has no model memories, end point adjustment, control (lets you electronically adjust the servo travel), exponential (allows you to make the controls less sensitive in the initial movement), aileron differential, etc. as you already have a Spektrum AR600 then the Spektrum Dx6i would be a good choice.

But maybe for now the best thing to do would be to get hold of a trainer, something like an E Flite Apprentice or even better Multiplex EasyStar (would even use the same Lipo as your Spit) and use your Saturn radio to learn to fly on that.

Thankyou Olly,Trevor and Frank for your welcome input ,its much appreciated.

I think I will put the Spitfire on ice for the timebeing until I feel more confident.

I am flying the Wing Dragon 4 RTF and have had no mishaps....Touch wood !! If I can fly this which rc plane is the next step up !!!

I'm a believer in supporting your local model shop - use 'em or lose 'em. However, if you haven't one within easy reach, Brentford R/C seem to be Spektrum specialists. West London Models is another R/C and electric specialist in the London area. You can probably find loads of other places selling them on line. Also check out the ads in RCM&E.

E-bay is a possible source of secondhand units, but take care - there were a few service bulletins on DX6i's a few years ago, so you need to be sure everything has been sorted. The best way to buy secondhand is from a known source, so belonging to your local model club has its advantages, for all sorts of other reasons too.
