Antony Wright
Ok the builders have finally left the house and I finally got the lid off the box of my new flair cub. When I undid the celotape holding all the bits together in the box I discovered that most of the ply sheets are warped (probably from being celotaped for a long period of time). My question is how do I remove the warp? I know I have to spray one side with water then weigh it down but which side do I spray and which side do I put the weights on? Lets assume that the wood is warped like a bridge. Do I spray the top of the bridge and put the weights in the center or do I spray the underside and put the weights in the center? you get the picture. Which is the correct way to remove the warp. Also if the warp has twisted the sheet how do I correct that? Thanks all.
Malcolm Fisher
Sometimes heat can be better than water for removing (or incorporating) warps.Use a hot air gun or steam to heat the ply and wearing gloves :-) twist/bend the wood in the opposite direction of the warp. Go a bit beyond the straight and hold until it cools. After release the wood should become straight. If it isn't, tepeat the process and/or the degree of "over bend".HTH
Antony Wright
thanks Malcolm. The items in question were rather far gone and water didnt do anything for them. Since the originals have been replaced and I still possess them - I'll give it a try see what happens.
Andy Gates
I would personally dampen both sides of the plank with a mist spray and then lay the plank on a very flat surface with weight placed over the length at even intervals and left to dry out again.
