Erfolg
I am normally very fussy with respect to which books I buy, according to my wife. I have binned a number of Spitfire books as being superficial, not dealing with the design process, which includes the Walrus and many less than satisfactory steps. So why am pushing this book? Well it is written by Bill Gunston. The Cutaways are actually drawings that were used in illustrating both Aeroplane and Flight, showing the internals. So works of art. Then there is the subjects covered, many aircraft all but forgotten other than Tim Hooper. So not just the obvious, although these are not ignored. Even engines are included, Napier Dagger, Centaurous, RR, DB and BMW. The accompanying text by Bill Gunston, tells the tale of the performance, the shortcomings and how they fitted into the times. So those now obscure aircraft have historic life breathed into them. Best of all now £5.99 from the Print Works. A good browse, for even the normally finicky.
