Thanks for the replies, looks like buying a power meter Garbo,Frank looking at what you say the 45a esc should be alright.I am very new to electric flying and you hear a lot of horror stories about planes that come as pnp models and the motors and esc that come with them not being powerfull enough to do the job.

I understand your concern, Gary. We hear of supplied, unknown brand ESC problems quite often! I feel that many ESC's can either control the motor speed adequately or supply the necessary volts to the Rx, but all too often, at the less expensive end of the price range, they cannot manage both.

I've settled on a principle that, on a budget or mid-priced ESC such as Hobbywing, 3S with 4 servos or fewer should be fine. More than 4 servos, or any 4S and upwards system, I always use a stand-alone BEC.

For the little extra work involved, and the relatively inexpensive cost of UBECs, I've found this to be a worthwhile insurance policy - I haven't lost any model to Rx power issues since I adopted this policy. thumbs up

Pete
