An electric trainer is certainly a good and viable plan. Joining a local club would also be really good idea. They'll organise your insurance and teach you to fly on a buddy lead - worth every penny of the membership in saved models believe me! You'll be able to look up clubs and their contact details on the BMFA website - here. Once you have found a couple of possible clubs in your area, visit them, suss them out, see if you'd feel at home. Plenty of trainer airplanes to choose from; I started with a 3 channel pusher prop glider model myself; which is fine, but if you can, go 4 channels immediately; slightly steeper learning curve, but will pay off as soon as you start flying the airplanes after your first trainer!
