WolstonFlyer
HiThey can do either depending on the model. If it came with props you should be able to tell by looking at them.Edited By WolstonFlyer on 29/12/2012 21:43:
Chris Bott - Moderator
Either will work Robert. If they both go the same way there will be some torque effect just like with a single engined plane. If they rotate in opposite directions this is conveniently cancelled out. However, to spin opposite ways, you need to find matching props for both directions. Props referred to as "Pusher" props are oriented the correct way for the unusual direction. So you need to find a conventional and a pusher prop of the same make and spec.
Ady Hayward
Hi Robert, You will find a mix of both configurations out in the wild. Many are conventional and have both motors/ props turning the same way. This can give rise to torque and propwash issues and can get a handfull in some cases. If you have a twin with contra direction props then you will find that the torque/ propwash effects are cancelled out so the plane is much more friendlier to fly especially at slow speed and high power settings. It all depends on what is supplied with the kit but if i had the choice for a first twin then the contra direction setup will be the safer in my opinion. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Getting the props isn't too difficult - APC do conventional and pusher in most sizes. The real challenge is if you need spinners! Pusher spinners are rare beasts - you'll probably have to buy blanks and make the cut-outs yourself. Of course if the model doesn't use spinners - no problem. BEB
simon barr
As I've mentioned in a similar thread a while ago, my Deuces Wild twin started life with counter rotating props, but due to badly balanced spinners, and it being easier to find "normal" spinners to replace them, both motors now spin the same way with no noticable effect.
