Simon Chaddock
Still smarting over the loss of my Libelle I took out my 'definately not a glider' Endurance with it full 5000mAh battery to check it still flew ok with it after the last set of improvement. This morning the air was full of blue thermals (those hawks were at it again). So after 25 minutes pottering about a pair of hawks kindly identified a close by thermal. I have learned that by keeping a bit of power on I can keep up with them so don't risk losing the centre of the thermal - they are so much better at it than me! At 700ft power off and it just stayed there flying in and out of thermals almost directly overhead. I had my HK altimeter on board. At that altitude being white it is hard to see so couldnt take my eyes of it for even a second. At 45 minutes my neck called 'enough' so i came down. 18 minutes power off and it gained height - not bad for a 48" span lugging 5000mAh 2s and no folding prop either. I did not bother recharging the battery! Edited By Simon Chaddock on 02/05/2013 19:53:
Rich too
That's excellent - I used to love gliding and hitting thermals, I must get another one day...Rich
Charles Smitheman
Yes, A pleasant reminder of that rising feeling! I have always wanted one of those altimeter/ vario thingys.. So many ideas so little time.
