Doug Ireland
Gents,A question. At present I charge my Tx using the supplied charger that came with the set. I don't have the knowledge or experience to replace the battery pack for a Li Po unit and am worried that I will lose the on-board memory if I disconnect the internal battery. What I want to know is; can I use an external charger (and still use the existing socket) to charge at a higher rate?
simon barr
Hi Doug,Yes you can disconnect the TX battery and charge it externally, I routinely charge mine at 1C with my fast charger. (1C means for a 1000 mah pack, charge at 1 amp, 700 at 0.7 amp etc). However, do not charge at a higher rate through the TX socket as you will damage something (diodes etc). All the best. Tim Mackey
There is an inbuilt memory which works independantly of the main battery, and this is either EPROM or powered by a single "button" style cell. Disconnecting the battery will NOT lose your model memory. The main switch on your tr effectively completely disconnects it anyway !'bout time you went LiPo Mr Ireland
Doug Ireland
Timbo, I'm giving it serious consideration. Any idea what size I would need for the JR 2720 and where can I find a suitable connector, this is assuming that I have to charge the new battery out of the tx case? How is the onboard glow thing going? Tim Mackey
Standard LiPo transmitter pack....Think BRC amongst others are doing them these days....Obviously just as in nickel ones, the bigger the capacity the longer the flight time I hope to have your glow unit done by end of week
Doug Ireland
Its 9.6v at 1500, you didn't say if I can charge it inside the tx or if I need to make up a charging lead for it?
Bruce Richards
Why, when you can get 2100mah instant (very low self discharge rate) Nmhi packs, would you want to go to Lipo? What would be the benefit?Bruce
Doug Ireland
Hi Bruce,I think the decision came from reading previous threads on the pros and cons of using LiPo's for things other than electric motors. I also like the longer duration that these batteries offer.
Bruce Richards
Doug,I think the Tx Lipos are about 2500mah which would not give a a lot more duration than the 2100mah Nimh as far as I can see or may be I am wrong. It would not be the first time.Bruce
Tim Mackey
It is always advisable to charge LiPo out of any case /model. I just made up my own suitable connector from the original set in the original tr.This is the one I meant from BRC - seems they come with correct plugs already fitted
Doug Ireland
I got one from Al's with the connectors already fitted.
