Steve Evans 2
Hi, I recently resurrected an old Archie biplane that I built in the late 80s from the depths of the loft. It has been well stored and has no warps in the flying surfaces. It seems to roll faster to the right than the left even though the aileron control throws are equal. It has ailerons on the bottom wing only. The C of G is within the recommended range. It also tends to drop its nose more in a right turn then a left. Loops however track straight and true. Any ideas how I can trim this out? Cheers Steve
Shaunie
I'm sure someone better qualified will be along soon but... Have you tried rolls to the right and left with power off, i.e. in a shallow dive? I'm just wondering if the side/down thrust is wrong. I also seem to remember that the twist in the airflow caused by the prop has a bigger effect with a biplane, due to two wings being in the propwash and less of the wing tips being out in fresh air... Then again I could be talking twaddle again . Shaunie.
Martyn K
Assuming that the prop is turning in the conventional direction, I would have thought that a model would roll faster to the left - torque assisted.. Martyn
PatMc
Why bother ? It's a nice sedate WW1 style slow flyer with a quirky characteristic. OTOH you could either increase the throws for a left roll or feed in some left rudder during left rolls or mix some left rudder with left aileron on the Tx. But IMO best just to accept that you do normal rolls to the right & slow rolls left.
