YakMad
I've always used the Hitec hs-75 retract servo as it's fairly cheap and once the linkages are set-up correctly (no stalling) they have been reliable. As Eric says the hard part is the linkage set-up and a stalled retract servo will drain your battery quickly or indeed fry the servo (I've done it!!) David Ashby - Moderator
Hi Alan I've used the Hitecs and they're very good. Depends on the aircraft as to how many you need. Most .60 sized warbirds and smaller use a single unit to move both legs but some ARTF models have employed one retract servo per leg in the past. Air retracts are recommended for models larger than this.
Alan Brock
Thanks for the info, looks like I will be sourcing some Hitecs. Not sure if I can get away with just one servo as the plane is a Spit and the angles of the retracts and push rods look a bit awkward. The retracts are self-locking and there is quite a large amount of movement in the pushrod at either end of the stroke before the leg starts to move in an arc so I think it won't be too much of a problem to set up.
