What's your favourite glue brand?

Recommended Posts

I use from Toolstation

  • There cyno £1 for 20g bottle, available in thick and med.
  • PVA 526 at approx £3 for a 1 lt bottle.
  • Evo stick solvent contact
  • Polyurethane Henkel Elk preferably, although have Gorilla at present, marketing bull ........
  • Everbuild epoxy @ £1.88 for 24ml

from else where

  • 4 Star adhesive canopy glue, for canopies
  • Uhu Por

I do or have experimented with many of other brand names, I have been hard pressed to tell much difference. Although I do trust Resin W blue container as waterproof, and both Henkel and Uhu brands are bullet proof.

I do have sympathies with Gerhard, I can never buy coffee beans that make Coffee like my Oma's, strong in taste (flavour), low in bitterness and that aroma! Non of the wishy washy stuff I now drink Kenko really rich (or something like in name).

I voted Deluxe. But I also use a Gorilla.

Since I'm mostly working with insulation foam, I use mostly hot glue, Gorilla glue and foam safe 20 second CA from Deluxe. So far I've only the CA purchased it from my LMS, at £7+ for 20g . Plus I have been buying Bob Smith's Insta-Set kicker there too. But I've just noticed Evotite on Hobbyking @ £3 for 20g, which is instant setting. Hmm, I do prefer a little time to ensure accuracy.

My favourite died years ago. RIP dear Britfix. crying

Now that's a blast from the past.

Titebond from Tyzak's. Five Star for cyno and epoxy when ordering other Items, Toolstation for cyno, epoxy and poly if in a rush, Gorilla from the local Hardware shop, LMS has to come into this also for all types.

So I voted Others...

I would vote Deluxe without hesitation. I used to use Zap for cyano until I discovered the Deluxe Roket range of glues which seem to give a stronger and more flexible bond than Zap and Roket has a much better shelf life as well which is important to someone like me who uses different viscosities and is not a constant builder. The Deluxe epoxies I have used for years when they were probably the only 5 min epoxy on the market and they have always proved themselves superior to the other top brands in reliability and strength for the widest range of materials. I suppose when you look at the range of Deluxe Materials glues and other specialist modelling products it's obvious they understand the needs of the modeller and are going to produce the best modelling glues and other products.

I find Deluxe Materials supply the most comprehensive range of glues on the market. If you can't find a glue to stick a particular material, contact Deluxe. I've been using there products for over 30 years and would thoroughly recommend everything they produce. The fact they are still in business 40 years later is testament to there quality, John Bristow is a modeler himself and he listens to what other modelers say about glue products. Try the new "Brush Magic", a brush cleaner that is non toxic, cleans with water and leaves no lingering smells. It will remove all the paints and varnishes I had tried it on and its great for cleaning residue off film covering after the model has been covered.

II can only cope with odourless cyano and now prefer Deluxe materials Roket brand because it seems to clog less readily than Zap odourless (now re-named 'foam safe'?)

Epoxy - usually Deluxe again.

Aliphatic - traditionally Deluxe again but, since I started flying off the water, I've switched to Titebond II for the water resistance, and have been very happy with it.

Then of course there's the Gorilla glue and canopy glue that come out once in a while.

And yes, I too mourn the passing of Britfix. I can still smell it now - fortunately we were far too innocent to abuse it. These were the days when a 12 year old could walk into a chemist and buy bottles of ether and amyl nitrite for mixing diesel fuel - not to mention saltpetre for rocket fuel!

I have been a ZAP fan for years, but Deluxe have been working on their epoxies and the latest formula perform really well against what I'm used to. Liked the CA for some time, I tend to use thick and thin the most in my building and couldn't fault the Deluxe versions against my normal ZAP. I've been involved with the development of their composite special epoxy and the latest formula is a long way from the very first batches produced. I've been using some today on a new CARF Models SU-31 I'm building

The biggest thing with the company is they listen to customers, are willing to adapt and clearly have the team to achieve what they set out to do. They offer a complete range for the modeller, dual use for many things. Its a one stop range.
