Toto, have you checked that that plinth doesn’t stop you from pulling your chair up close enough to the screens?
  2. Better get your batteries changed then Ron 😇
  3. Don’t worry Geoff, we all knew what you meant!🙂👍
  4. Toto, what battery do you use in your Tasman? I use 3300mah - 3500mah (because I have them) and the aerobatic performance is still very good. The battery bay is big enough that there’s no problem balancing it with these larger batteries and it might help a little bit in windier conditions. Trevor
  5. Have you ever used this feature out of necessity Ron? I’ve only tried it out on the drive, just to check I could make it work.
  6. I agree with the first bit, but not the second. If you watch motorsport and see drivers walk away after horrendous crashes, it seems that there is no reason for anyone to be killed or seriously injured in a road car. By a car is another matter though so if some of these ‘driver aids’ help to protect pedestrians and cyclists maybe it’s right that we drivers can’t easily turn them off?
  7. We have a new Kia EV9 and, as per the OP, it is inclined to beep and bong at you a bit. The irony is that, if you look down at the dash to work out what the bonging is about, you then get bonged again for taking your eyes off the road! As I get more familiar with the car, this happens far less so the over speed warning is probably now just about on the credit side of being useful more than annoying - except, as others have said, when it gets the speed light limit wrong. The smart cruise control is very good. It responds very well to traffic pulling out in front of me, adjusting its response depending on whether the intruder is accelerating or not. I’ve had no unwanted activation of emergency braking other than when squeezing this large car into our garage. Lane keeping assist can give you an unwelcome nudge on country lanes but it’s never been intrusive enough for me to want to turn it off. So, on balance, I think that most of these features take a bit of getting used to, but I don’t think any of them are going to be a long term annoyance. And, of course, being electric, auto stop start, which I did find annoying, no longer applies 🙂
  8. Personally, I’ve long since dispensed with such switches and just disconnect the battery instead. I appreciate that access issues may make this impractical in some cases - and the contacts in cheap extension leads won’t last forever either.
  9. Back in my control line days, nobody seemed interested in using up expensive film on toy aeroplanes, so I had to recreate the memories of those days another way: https://www.bartonhewsons.uk/home/modelflying/sport/spectrekeydata.html
  10. Robert, I attended what turned out to be the last LMA show at Duxford. As I recall, a jet crashed into a field on the other side of the M11. The crop was set alight and, because of the wind direction, the motorway was closed for some time due to smoke blowing across it. One can only guess whether this had anything to do with the LMA not returning to Duxford.
  11. And just be aware that you are now entering the most accident-prone stage of the journey! A moment’s disorientation perhaps when you’ve flown a bit too far away, an inadvertent fly through the sun, looking away to check on other models or just someone talking to you on the flight line. Any of these and plenty more situations will result in a pulse-quickening moment. You’ll probably recover most of the time, and ratchet up the learning a bit more as a result, but odds are you won’t get through the next few months without getting caught out by something.
  12. Very strange. I’d try one ESC at a time - you’ll need a separate Rx battery for the one with the disconnected red wire.
  13. Well done! A significant milestone that you will never forget. Don’t rush into the A test, just make sure you practice the flying part and the ground procedures regularly. But have at least one flight in each session where you just enjoy flying ‘freestyle’ .
  14. Forgot the link!! https://www.4-max.co.uk/pp-balboard.htm
  15. This is the sort of thing I use. You would need one for each charger. No multiple charging ambitions, just saving wear and tear on the sockets on the charger.
  16. Do I understand correctly that you are plugging the battery balance plugs directly into the charger? If so, I’d strongly recommend plugging in via a balance board. I don’t think these JST-XT connectors are designed for frequent plugging and unplugging and as a result they do deteriorate with use. Much cheaper to replace the balance board than the charger!
  17. What makes you think they’re out of order? It could just be that that their output wasn’t needed at that time, especially if it was a sunny day.
  18. This has come up before somewhere recently. I believe that it’s due to concentrating so hard on the model that the brain effectively ’zooms in’ on it and loses all sense of distance and perspective. Even for experienced fliers this can happen in moments of stress, resulting in such phenomena as ‘the tree jumped out in front of me!’
  19. Toto, rest assured that your mentor will have no interest in standing beside you, getting a sore thumb on the trainer button, when he feels he is no longer needed. Asking him to check that you can safely (if not prettily) fly the various manoeuvres in the A test before he lets you off the leash sounds like a good plan, so that you can then practice in your own time.
  20. Sounds like a promising step forward. Time to fit a stabiliser perhaps? At least on the roll axis.
  21. The tendency to gain altitude (and/or fly too far away) is, I think, due in large measure to the brain’s ability to zoom in on the model when you are concentrating hard on it. I would never advocate taking your eyes off the model but do suggest you consciously try to draw your attention back to ‘wide angle’ mode from time to time to help judge where you are relative to your surroundings .
