However I don't use IE unless I can't avoid it, and even if I do use IE I wouldn't use a version as old as IE8. My suspicion is that the feature was introduced when IE8 was new, and either uses some Microsoft quirk that has been dropped since then or the "top left" icon no longer exists but the text remains unchanged.
