RichFR
I Have just got a HobbyKing 3s 1500mAh LiFe battery for my transmitter and it has one cell with a lower voltage. 1. 3.26 2. 3.27 3. 3.07 Is this ok for a new LiFe? or is it like a Lipo and it has a bad cell? john melia 1
Have you tried balancing it
RichFR
Not yet if its a sign of a bad pack I was going to RMA it. Will balance if it doesn't matter. Sure I read that with a Lipo its a sign the pack has a bad cell as they shouldn't have been charged or discharged when new so a low cell voltage is not good. ben goodfellow 1
give it a cycle or two . its hardly worth the effort of sending it back to hk ...im sure it will be ok
john melia 1
Just balance it , wont harm anything , I have a few packs that show cell counts like that , I balance them and they are fine
RichFR
Thanks will give it a balance then With Hobbyking if I have had a problem with anything I have taken a video and they have credited my account if its faulty. I didn't have to send it back. Thanks again
Phil Green
Its fine. Life's dont need balancing in the same way that lipos do - and theres a lot of nonsense talked about lipo balancing. With a lipo, as long as no cell goes above 4.2v on charge and below a minimum that damages the cell irreversibly on discharge, thats all that matters. Mid charge/discharge, a few mV between cells matters not a jot. The point is that lipo chemistry is critical of charge & discharge end-voltages. Lifes on the other hand are extremely tolerant of abuse and do not have the same critical maximum and minimum voltages. They can be charged to significant overvoltage and almost completely discharged without harm. Balancing a Life to a few mV is therefore a bit of a waste of effort. Charge it, fly it!
