  1. Their Parkside cordless Dremel-lookalike is brilliant, not sure if they're on at the moment, Lidl stock comes & goes. Would suit the little drill set perfectly ☺️
  2. Because there are three 19mohm cells in series
  3. I would suggest they're perfectly usable, just be aware that at (say) 20A your 3S pack is dropping a volt πŸ™‚
  4. Good to know for D8 users Mike but unfortuately doesnt suit Geoff's V8 module. I've had a few used V8R4's from ebay, all perfect, theres very little to go wrong with them (apart from the aerial!)
  5. Its all about engagement, thats the hard part. Theres actually loads of stuff happening, loads of projects under way, they just dont make it to the magazine πŸ™‚ In our local group we have a chap printing EDF jets, we have Andy from Angelwings with something new every week, Rob has built an amazing fully-CNC foam cutter, he built his own ADS-B receiver that feeds Flightradar24, we've an old stager who designed & flies his own V twin 4-stroke, we've Shauns huge scale glider builds, we've the retired MD of Wren Turbines with some fascinating engineering stories, we've John who worked on the Sopwith Camel replica built at the Northern Aeroplane Workshops, now at Old Warden, we've a chap who started PIC programming in his late 70s and now makes miniature F/F trackers, we've noobs passing their A's left right & centre. Slightly further afield we've Andy's 'Yorkshire Drone Flyers' and their amazing photography, we've T9 and the DS speed record breakers... loads of stuff going on, and thats just here. Surely this can't be unique to mid-Yorkshire, it must be typical of many areas. Magazine content is out there for the taking!
  6. Have faith Geoff, since then I've done several aerial replacements for the lads... no failures (yet!) πŸ™‚ I'm out of touch with commercial gear but I dont think there is any V8 stuff now...
  7. here you go Geoff, it is a simple length of hook-up wire, preferably silicone: (old lipo balance wire?) https://mode-zero.uk/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=394
  8. The three-dots 'share' option should link to the actual post, it does for me πŸ™‚ Eg heres your 'silk purse / sows ear' post: https://forums.modelflying.co.uk/index.php?/topic/63971-trying-to-make-a-silk-purse-out-of-a-sow’s-ear-flyfly-asw-28/&do=findComment&comment=1044010 Otherwise you can click on a member's profile, click "See their Actvity" and you'll get a list of their posts. Right-click teh one you want and do "Copy link address". You can then paste this into your post. Cheers Phil
  9. Maybe edit it as 'Sold' rather than delete, previous ads can be helpful when trying to value an item... πŸ˜‰
  10. Sorry Geoff yes 1P, my brainfart πŸ˜ƒ
  11. You cant as each cell is hundreds in parallel. But the specs we need for flight - maximum power to weight, ease of removal, no onboard management unit, light weight - dont apply to a domestic car. Hundreds of paralleled cells form one averaged-spec cell which will show little overall deviation from the factory individual cell spec - the more cells, the more it tends to the perfect spec - whereas our flight packs are generally 1P and a single bad cell affects the whole pack. Further, our chargers have nothing of the complexity and safety features of (say) a Tesla charger. I see what you're driving at (!) but a car is a different animal altogether! 😁 .
  12. Hi David, the KK Fleetwing is a very handsome model, was always a favourite to look at but I never had one. That Dave Platt knew his onions 😏 There was one in the BMFA office recently but I dont know who built it. Very nice! I thought of another - the Falcon 56 flies very well on reeds, rock steady, mine is a few years old now 😏 Re additional receivers, the encoder plays no part in binding so you can bind the RF module to many receivers as you would expect.
  13. I know most would disagree, but to me IR is everything, its the most significant aspect of any power supply. In a Lipo it enables an accurate estimate of actual vs claimed C rating, tells you good cells from bad, it indicates the effect of aging, it shows how temperature affects Lipo performance - to me the absolute cell voltage (within limits) is of far less importance than its IR, ie its ability to maintain that voltage under load πŸ™‚ It was excessive IR that caused the whole Spektrum 5-cell NiMh pack thing which is another story altogether (a pet gripe!) Some may recall that Wayne & I did the first Lipo IR meter which was very well received (and ultimately copied) 😁 Chargers generally (all?) measure charge IR, we use discharge IR which since no-one charges at 20+ C gives a more accurate real-world result 😁 Cheers Phil .
  14. I would try charging each 3.8v cell one at a time via the balance plug. Its so wildly out of balance that the charger may be giving up trying to balance the pack - some have a time-out for safety.
