  1. Stumbled across this pic of my Cox Diesel Bee bought new from Xenolook (now Cox International), nailed to the front of a Dick Stouffer 'Simplex' This was maybe 3 years back. The engine was about £30 IIRC with the heavy duty crank option:
  2. >>However, when I tried to do so recently, the pc gives a current surge error message. ... >>when I plug it into a usb hub which has an independent power supply, the power light on the hub goes out These two symptoms both suggest its simply taking too much current, usb usually limits at an amp or two, do you have a USB current indicator? (if not get a couple, they're very handy!) 'why' could be excessive inrush to smoothing caps, or the charger is 'on', or its got itself in a weird state... Presumably you havent got the charger powered up when plugging into your PC's usb? I would first check the excessive usb current isnt a fault :-)
  3. You realise thats just the shell, the actual crimp connectors are a separate item? 🙂
  4. 2mm spaced header sockets are almost as common as 2.54mm outside R/C, not at all unusual, we use them for in-circuit programming headers :) There are many types, Harwin, TE etc all do 2mm plugs & sockets
  5. I dont know about the battery, but to me, everything about that label says "Avoid" 🙂
  6. To justify the topic wandering, what I'm saying is that although the Cox .049 is a really old engine from a nostalgic era, its still available brand new, so the future of Cox engines is secure - at least for now and for the life span of their new engines 🙂
  7. Never done the big stuff but my own favourite of all time is the humble Cox Babe Bee. Ultra reliable, easy to start, easy to install, the option of running backwards in a pusher, still available to buy new in standard or custom format - whats not to love. Apart from the racket.... 🙂 I found one of my several old ones, untouched for maybe 40 years - holding it in my hand I squirted in some prime, some in the tank and connected the glow head. It started immediately which left me with a screaming engine in my fingers which was getting hotter and greasier by the second... I can be pretty dumb. More recently I bought a new custom diesel Cox from Cox International (IIRC they were called 'Xenolook' at the time) and its been brilliant, though the teflon contrapiston needs changing frequently and its a bit more finnicky than the glow. I might convert it back - just a case of swapping the head. Love Babe Bees. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
  8. Generally speaking, as Simon & Steve said - once a LiFePo4 is discharged to that level then its beyond recovery. If you do manage to get it to 6v6, it wont hold it and its charge capacity will be gone.
  9. Keep at it Matty, small wins every day... 👍
  10. Surely these are only any use in a straight line? For the bikes, once per second is way too slow, we found 10 samples per second too slow, Even with 100% reception, which we achieved maybe half the time, at 100mph the curves were a series of 15' chords. 🙂
  11. Be aware that gps-based devices are only accurate under saturated conditions, particularly at high speeds. Experiments for our motorcycle racing club showed bikes cutting corners, often jumping across the midfield cutting half a lap, with software straightlining between insufficient datapoints giving wildly inaccurate results. I had plots, I'll see if I can find them.
  12. Frsky X series, so full range. And isnt that the Taranis stick unit?
  13. 😁 I've never seen one before but try here: https://acairtechnology.com/ The tortoise/hare throttle suggests a 'toy' use - and yes, it is quite a "toy" !!!! Must have quite some traction, cant imagine it working on grass. The USB bottom-right could be an Arduino Nano edge-on. Is the case 3D printed maybe? In its intended role it would only need short range so might not make a flying set... although you wouldnt put a full external aerial on a short range device, so ??? Any chance of a look inside Ben? 🙂
  14. 30 seconds initial load, then 30 seconds per click... fibre to premises
  15. I've seen many, many taped-up aerials on Spekkies but never seen the cable snapped like that. To actually sever the cable an awful lot of force has been applied there - way more than the weight of the tx - so I would suggest thoroughly checking that the RF board connector is undamaged and its connections are still mechanically solid 🙂
