  1. There are no people involved Chris
  2. Update for Martin. I dont have many 1210 resistor options in stock so piggyback-paralleled the same values, so each resistor is half its original value. Red & green are now nice and bright at 5v but the vf of blue is just too high, its completely out at 4.6 volts. You could try a very low blue resistor but I dont have any in 1210. Upping the supply to 6v restores the blue level but for 4.8v/5v operation it looks like red, green & yellow are the only realistic options. Still useful though πŸ™‚
  3. I've also been tempted for a good while now, quite fancy the Bamboo A1 not that I know anything about it or its alternatives... Not sure why a 'PEI' plate is an extra, I take it that would be an essential? Dont think I need multi colour. They 'dont recommend' ABS, is that a problem? Utterly out of my depth to be honest 😁
  4. One of our club members did a scale Britten Norman Islander paintjob on a Twinstar, changed the fin, it was quite convincing :) You would expect so wouldnt you, but no! No harm done by reversing, they just dont work. I wonder if they get a lot of returns from car enthusiasts who dont know about leds...
  5. there does seem to be conflicting information... but I agree, just do it and forget about it for 5 years πŸ™‚
  6. >>or anything below 250gm. ...unless it has a camera πŸ™‚
  7. Believe it or not those tiny 2300's are 30v 3.6A mosfets! Also, now I have a close-up, the smallest is 100Ξ© rather than 1k as I thought and the larger ones are 75Ξ©. That makes much more sense - eyes getting old and its not well lit in my shed :) I'll try 47Ξ© and 39Ξ© if I've got them.
  8. Hi Martin, I had a closer look, its an unmarked processor (could well be a canbus chip) that runs at 3v3 via a zener, and a 24LC02N eeprom with small fet drivers via simple SMD ballast resistors to the RGB leds. The resistors are 1k for one colour (red?) and 750Ξ© for the other two. The whole thing does work at 4.8v with much reduced brightness and my guess (not tried it) is that if you drop the resistors to (say) a 470Ξ© and two 390Ξ©'s the brightness will be restored at 4.8v πŸ˜‰ Maybe even a 390 & two 330's. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Just a thought, if these are to be permanently mounted as nav lights, you wouldnt need to change all three resistors, you'd only need to change the red resistor on one and the green resistor on the other :)
  9. Bargain Gavin πŸ˜‰ I just checked John, at 12v its 130mA for continuous white, and about 90mA for the other solid colours, flashing reduces it to just over half. They're really neat !
  10. Thanks for the link John, mine arrived this morning and they're great fun to play with! I've no plan as to what I might use them for yet... they're very bright even on 2S, so bright I could see the afterimage for a couple of minutes ☺️ The alternate red/blue flash might be handy clearing a path in traffic!!! Might try them on a Wildthing just for a bit of fun, I'll probably make an inline sequencer that does on/off and colour selection from a spare rx channel πŸ˜‰ Cheers Phil
  11. I was reminded of this, Don 😁 and...
  12. I wasnt aware of any modern trend, I simply had to fit the model out at very short notice and lightweight servos were the easiest and quickest option. Yes they are if you have time to install them, I have done that on other models. Most of my models have a single torque-rod to the rudder which would have been the most 'period appropriate' method. Although it was necessary to get that particular J60 ready at very short notice, its been happily flying in this configuration for 7 years now, with only 80 grammes of tyre-balance weights up front. Now why on earth would you say that. I have massive respect for Albert Hatfull and designers of that era, in fact one of our annual S/C & Retro R/C events was themed in his name. At least mine fly on reeds, a method appropriate to the J60 era, presumably yours would be proportional? I'm going to withdraw from this particular discussion now, I've had several Junior 60s and simply thought I could contribute, theres no need for personal jibes about respect :) Happy New Year Cheers Phil
  13. Mine has 9gm servos in the tail, I thought this would be lighter than pushrods, I dunno if it is, I dont know how much weight I have up front but I'm sure its not as bad as 16oz! πŸ™‚ There has been a lot of J60 CoG discussion. Patmac has his at 40%, 35% is common (90mm from Leading Edge). https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/Junior-60
