Spice Cat
Up to the field this morning with my (repaired) Go Discover. After nearly an hour of putting things off due to the wind and cold, I decided to give it a go. According to Life Companion (One Sumsung mobile phone with delusions of grandeur), the temperature was a healthy 4 degrees C. My launching buddy stood ready and I gave the full the GD full throttle. And this is prettry much where the flight ended. One of the folding props promptly sheared off causing the motor mount to break. On Post Mortem, I wondered if a combination of the following caused the prop to break; Cold weather making the plastic brittle Instant full throttle The prop was folded on power on And a combination of the above with the blade being flung outward was enough to break the root. Any comments?? In any event, despite not having another model to fly I left the field in good spirits having spent time with some splendid fellow minded individuals on a gloriously sunny if a little chilly day. And the added bonus of a repair job that would stretch the little grey cells. Almost perfect......
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
Oooo sounds exciting SC but probably not the kind of excitement you would want to repeat too often.... I think I would go for "all of the above"....particularly the cold weather. Also how worn/loose is the pivot bolt? If theres a lot of play here it won't help... scott finnie
I'm guessing that on one of your previous flights the prop may have been damaged also some of these plastic props have weaknesses direct from the factory so its a matter of time before they go. I use aeronaut propellers on gliders or anything that foldsGood luck
scott finnie
In you're post you had mentioned repaired? Was it badly damaged and had you checked the power system for damage? Sometimes one of the most overlooked parts of a crash puzzle you can sometimes have the assumption that because the motor spins up straight ect that its ok
Spice Cat
Steve, in answer to you almost brand new. Scott, good point I had repaired but given it all a good once over. Possibly not enough. Regards.
Chuck Plains
WoW! Holy expletive deleted! Where were your buddy's fingers/face in relation to this pusher?? I agree with all of the above, but also with Scott, in that, as you say this was a previously repaird aircraft, there's always that possibility of previous damage. Very possibly a cracked prop bolt hole, which then failed immediately full power was applied. I never launch with much more than half power. Though I have yet to fly a plane with wheels. Spice Cat
Chuck, I forgot to mention that thankfully my Launch Buddy was unharmed!
J D 8
Happened to my Coyote while in flight motor ripped clean out but I still managed to land it despite reward cg. My fault as when I upgraded it to brushless motor I kept original prop and it was not up to the job.Lesson learned.

scott finnie
Thank SC. Just ordered a Go Discover! Couldn't help it. Looks like an interesting aircraft for a bit of slope filming
Spice Cat
Flies well but the damage on mine resulted from a tip stall on launch.
