zz
Hello, I have a foam warbird kit and I want to remove the vynal decals from it and replace with markings of a different nationality. I don't want to damage the underlying camouflage paint. I thought applying gentle heat may weaken the adhesive and allow me to ease the decals off. The kit is still in the box, just gathering my thoughts. I would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. Thanks.
Jack Rogerson
I think heat is the answer. I have never done exactly what you are trying, but have removed decals from other items. You really need to try an area to practice on, if that is possible. Use a heat gun, but from a distance away, not close up. The vinyl should go soft before the foam gets damaged. If you think a heat gun is too hot, use a hair drier, with the air intake blanked off a little, to increase the temperature. As with all things, tread carefully.
