Finished Typhoons

I have made the maiden on my Nijhuis Tiffie now, and what an airplane! I was a little concerned about the weight. The total weight ended at 4150 grammes! A "bit" more than stated in the article. After I mailed Tony I was told that his prototype actually weighed 3550 g balanced. The wing loading on my is 100g/dm2 wich I consider quite normal on this type of model. I have a Saito 80 with a 14x8 prop on it, wich gives it the necessary urge, to say the least. I placed the C of G at 110 mm with the wheels retracted and that is a very good starting point. It is a very pleasing model to fly and I didn´t have to make any trim changes at all! By the way, I covered it with SIlver-film and painted it with Prymol-primer and waterbased Vallejo Airbrush-colours and used 2-pack matt clearcoat to protect it. All markings are painted. I will use it in our national class "sportscale" here in Sweden on the 28-29 of June and see how it fares there.

It would be nice to see all the other ready built Typhoons here as well.

Here's my first HEAVY version. The model has suffered extensive damage on it's maiden, I think due to me just building too heavy, but it will be rebuilt incorporating a few lightening idea's and hopefully the version II will be much better behaived!

 Mine was built electric, with a KA50-14L 366Kv motor running on 6s 4100mah lipos (2 x 3s in series) driving a 15" three blade Varioprop with the pitch set at 8 1/2". Plenty of bang to get it off the deck, although the pitch speed might have been questionable in flight, may try 14" blades on the rebuilt model

Inner gear doors driven by two micro servos all connected to the retract chanel through a SM services door sequencer...............worked really well. the weight it flew at was 10lb 4oz. I'm going to try and knock a pound off of that.

Well, I found this thread lurking on page 3, I thought there would have been a lot more Tiffies posted on here from this fantastic free plan! Well here's mine all back together again following a little misshap on it's maiden...................well it was a bin job actually but such a great model I decided to rebuild it and hopefully cure the problems I had with my initial one...................I guess we'll see soon

Please be careful this time Ian......

Having said that I have just trashed the new Hurricane......bit of a mess. The Ed and I were just about to do the flying shots for the magazine when after a lovely take-off and turn radio contact was lost (reciever failure as it tuned out) and she nose dived into the ground.....Fortunately the ground turned out to be the river that runs along the back of our flying field.....so not as bad as it could have been (electrically trashed though). I've given myself a week to rebuild, cover paint and fly it again before the final dead line

why do I do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A week!!!......................You never fail to amaze me Tony My Typhoon took 6 weeks to rebuild, and I thought that was pretty good going......................and I had a centre section and right wing panel intact as a starting point.

I've managed to lighten it by12oz , fitted an APC 15 x 10 two blade prop, and built in some more right thrust. Plus I'll be removing the u/c doors before flying off of our rough grass field, and I'm using 2.4Gkz this time to remove any chance of interference, So I'm feeling a lot more confident with it this time around

Thanks for the tip Tony It's an AR6200 reciever the one with dual recievers and is said to be out of sight range, but I'll defo take on board what you say about the TX arial every effort to help with a trouble free maiden will be taken! I just bought a futaba PCM 9 channel dual conversion RX off a guy in our club, flown in one model never abused etc etc.................for £20 fantastic reciever! his moving over completely to 2.4. I flew it in my electric 64" Chipmunk at Brean sands today..................One hell of a strong wind, managed a few circuits then it felt like a tornado ripped down the beach so I got it down safely at my feet and we all dived in our cars for cover. But the model, previously very twitchy was rock solid on the PCM reciever.....................best 20 quid i've spent
