daveyboy
So as you can see foam inserts have been shaped and secured in place. The whole fuz can now be sheeted phew !!! that will take ages !!!,Blue foam is used as recommended but light balsa would do the same. daveyboy
Done some basic shaping on the cowl but it must be said it will need quite a bit of work to get things smooth and acceptable.
daveyboy
Hi folks, Well a bit of a lull in the build as i am waiting for the show season to start and i can purchase another small rain forest to sheet the fuselage with. Will crack on as soon as i replace depleeted stocks with some more sheet balsa and glue ect. That will be only a couple of weeks until the first show. Regards and soft landing Dave.

daveyboy
So basic lamination of 3mm ply and each side epoxied to either side main formers.
daveyboy
Falcon have these made and what a lovely retractable unit it is,secured again to 4 laminations of 3mm ply.
daveyboy
So all epoxied in place and left overnight to dry. This shows it in its retracted state.
daveyboy
Internal shot from the top of the fuz, as you can see a small portion of the tank bay removed to accomadate the tyre.It is a big old tyre so this is needed.
daveyboy
So here we go all sheeting scarf jointed and underside reinforced with masking tape , rubbed down onto cyano, gives a great strong join.
daveyboy
Should have mentioned the upper deck has been removed, so as it was raining i pinched most of the pegs from our washing line !. Main side sheeting was applied with PVA applied by small brush. Close grain balsa sheet for added strength.

ChrisB
Looking very good Dave. The retract looks like a nice piece of kit, as does the airframe. What scheme are you doing?
daveyboy
Hi Chris thanks for the comments,i dont know to be honest but i think it will be loud as in bright orange and sky blue sort of a fancy sunburst. Fus will be glassed and profilm on the wings i think. It is suprising how mush glue you use on a large build.
Martian
Lovely build Davey and that retract is a work of art
daveyboy
So sheeting the fuselage top deck, started by glueing four sheets of 3mm balsa sheet together using cyano and securing the join with the previously mentioned method.
daveyboy
So when dry wet the outside area with a sponge and water, drape over structure, use cling film as a barrier if you wish,i apply an old towel so as the balsa softens the weight of the towel pulls the balsa down over the structure. This is what the end result gives you.(see above ).We now have to offer back up to the fuz and roughly trim oversize.Wet again and i tape the balsa to the structure fairly secure to mould the correct shape. daveyboy
Next is to trim one side final and apply, i used 30min epoxy a thin layer between the two surfaces. When dry pull balsa to structure with sellotape, then trim final the opposite side and adhere to structure. daveyboy
Same with the sheeting around the mount for the tailplane,pre- bend some balsa, i use a spray can as a template, when dry remove and after making a paper template, transfer the pattern to the balsa and secure with 5-min epoxy to blue foam. daveyboy
Sheeted the fin with 2mm balsa and added a soft leading edge ( my addition ).When dry the fuz can be sanded back till most joints are flat.

daveyboy
As you can see finished result is not difficult and taking shape now, turn the fuz over and install the bottom forward floor and start on the retract doors.not included in kit so up to you.
