Transmitter compatibilty

My return to RC is almost complete. I've not flown my fixed wing yet as I want some nicer weather for it, but have become a fan of quadcopters and now helicopters. These are generally the kind that can be hovered indoors.

A side effect of this is my new and growing collection of transmitters. It seems that every quad/heli (toy grade possibly) has its own controller. I have over ten of them now, only a couple can be used on more than one aircraft. Now the helis are using 6ch devices, it would be great to learn if there is a resource that lists compatible transmitters.

Is there such a thing?

I fly most things with my Taranis. I have a FlySky plug in module for WLToys helis (911 and 912 and a small indoor quad) and an Orange DSM2 module for my Vapor or any other BNF Spectrum compatible models. You could do the same with any transmitter with a JR standard module socket on the back, I suppose.

I don't like to be cluttered with transmitters either.

In the days of 35MHz many receivers and transmitters were compatible. Now with 2.4GHz there are so many protocols it is mind-boggling. Orange, Lemon and Frsky make "compatible" receivers for Futaba and Spektrum systems, many people (including myself) use these with no problems. You just have to buy the correct ones for your system. Frsky also make transmitter modules to fit modular compatible transmitters so there is another set of choices there. This is not an exhaustive list you understand as I'm sure there are other manufacturers out there.

I'm sure part of the popularity of Spektrum (yes that's me too) is the massive availability of bind-and-fly models that get you in the air with no building to speak of but still gives a very capable model.
