scott finnie
Had my first ever try at float flying today and although it improved balance considerably the floats really shook up in the air! There homebuilt from a childs foam swim noodle. Have braced them all i can though experiencing violent vibes that then travel through the heli. Any advice? Not planning on keeping them attached. Only want to experience landing and taking off from water. RegardsScott
gliggsy
Bent shaft or unbalanced blades???
scott finnie
Shaft is true and blades are balanced. Flies perfectly without the floats. The floats begin to shake when there attached. Possibly downwash?
Richard Wills 2
Could be downwash setting up some resonance. Could also be a slight imbalance somewhere setting it off which doesn't show without the floats. Have you tried changing the headspeed to see if the vibration level changes? Are they low frequency 'shakes' or high frequency 'blur' vibes?
Denis Watkins
The guys are in the right area Scott. The slightest imbalance will be magnified and rotational way down at the floats. Assuming 100% balance and alignment of shaft, then resonance similarly rocks the floats aggressively due to their shape. Aerodynamics of floats? Downwash? Cylinders must be the obvious choice, we need the boffs Scott.
Peter Christy
It does sound like a resonance issue. Some pictures of your set up would help with a diagnosis! -- Pete
RichardV
+1 on the pics. Probably nothing wrong with heli, just a resonance issue. Attaching them more securely or making them shorter could help. Rich
