Staufenbiel gliders - nearly all are out of stock!

I've found that with Staufenbiel too when I was looking for a new glider, and they appear to be owned by Horizon Hobby now too. I gave up in the end and went for something else.

You could try FVK Models who produce very similar models to the Vegas. I have the Signal 2.4m which flies very well indeed. Glass fuse and veneered foam wings makes for a quick and easy build.

Thanks Steve. What motor do you have in the Signal?

One of the attractions of Staufenbiel is the PNP format. I'm very lazy these days...

I'm afraid that the Staufenbiel we knew is now pretty much gone - HH seem to have purchased them primarily to act as their EU distribution hub, not for their (fairly niche, mostly e-gliders) model range. I doubt many of those models will surface again via the HH website; fingers crossed new distributors are found.

Is anybody surprised - the writing was on the wall within 8-10 weeks - and anyway look what happened to Cadburys when the Yanks bought them. And why in the name of all that's holy do our government seem to be encourageing foreigners buy all our (frequently iconic) businesses?

Dear all,

I had hoped to purchase a mini-Epsilon from the Staufenbiel website. Allthough the model was showing as not available at the time of my on-line order, in the order instructions I asked Staufenbiel to advise me of an approximate date the model would return to stock. At the time of ordering Staufenbiel debited my account. Weeks went by, followed by 3 e-mails, only finally getting a response after using a new ticketing system on the web-site which is hidden away.

The response was that Stuafenbiel have no idea when this model will be back in stock. In fact when I checked there only very few gliders models actually in stock on the Staufebiel/Horizon Hobby Europe website.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Does anyone know why customer service is so woeful?

And why there are very few models actually showing as available for delivery?

Many thanks for any responses.

Mark

I'm in a situation as above. I ordered a replacement fuselage for my Vegas in July. I'm still waiting for the order although my Paypal account has already been debited for the required amount.

I have sent emails to Horizon customer service but have not received any replies even though the payment was to Horizon Hobbies.

It doesn't seem as though customer service exists.so is Horizon Hobby about to do a disappearing act?

I bought a Top Model ARTF (Antic) from Staufenbiel last year, and that was then promptly removed from the site. I suspect that as the old gliders are sold, then they may not be available again, though by keeping out of stock gliders on the site they are clearly keeping options open.

All of the Czech gliders will be available to order from the producers, and going into Eastern Europe, I suspect that could also be true. There are also some stocks of Czech gliders, at old prices, with UK dealers. Please don't ignore the UK dealers.

Me and my flying buddy used to get great goods and service from Staufenbiel, but seems like HH in their infinite wisdom has slowly choked and killed them off leaving many loyal customers stranded. Now it's case of first finding info on a glider or item we like, then tediously searching the net for a supplier. There are still some glider suppliers in the UK, but not many carry or can supply the more specialised stuff such as composites and Hot Liners. We have had some decent stuff from T9 Hobbysport a couple of years back, they are in the UK, but even their webpage now show many 'out of stock' items, but to be fair he has been helpful in the past and will try to get what you need if he can, so worth having a chat with him. Also had some good stuff from FVK as someone mentioned earlier, was a long time ago, but still worth a try.
