Hi all, I am attempting to build a box to house my glow plug battery. Can someone tell where I can buy the old fashion jack plugs and sockets please. I can locate a lot on line but need a catalogue to show me parts. Cheers ps all I can find are audio, and stereo stuff lol

What size jack? 1/4" were the old standard (my metric brain guessed 6mm but I checked one of mine and its 1/4" ). 2.5mm and 3mm are readily available. If I needed one I'd go to RF Potts in Derby (they're on line, I think, but it's an old fashioned electronics/electrical shop with a vast stock). Otherwise, I bet eBay will be your best source to try.

I think you're looking for 4mm banana plugs & sockets?

About 50p a piece at bitsbox.

other colours are available...

Jack plugs and sockets, whatever size, are not suitable for power supply uses as there is a momentary short of the contacts when connecting.

Better to use 4mm Banana plugs with separate +ve and -ve or use a DC power plug like these....**LINK**

Larger sizes and a range of sockets are available.

  • 1 month later...

Here's what I found and posted on a thread back in April Robert.

This thread got me wondering as to what load each type of connector is?

A quick search came up with the following for constant load of these connectors.

XT60 = 60amps

XT90 = 90 amps

EC3 = 60amps

EC5 = 120 amps

Deans = 50 amps

Traxxas = 100 amps

Anderson = 30 amps

HXT 4mm = 93 amps

Interesting as a search on RC Groups showed a lot of people seem to be misinformed about Deans & Anderson types especially, although Andersons were only one that had a max voltage given of 600volts for those of you flying 3 phase mains voltage Haha.
