Replacement LiPo for T8FG

I have been using the supplied NiMh battery in my T8FG Tx from new without problems but I want to upgrade to LiPo to extend the intervals between recharging. I know I need a 2S, low discharge rate and with a Futaba plug. The existing NiMh battery measures 134mmx34mmx17mm.

I have spent hours searching t'internet without success. Please can someone help me out with a recommendation?

I have successfully used a LiFe battery in my T8FG. However it MUST be removed from the TX for charging.

I purchased the battery from HobbyKing, Zippy 2500 6.6 volt %c Rx series

On a bar code is 2200008691158

Hope this assists you.

David, please excuse my ignorance but why must the battery be removed from the transmitter? is it because the circuitry within the transmitter would not be able to handle a Life charger with a suitable adapter and its ability to deliver a higher Amp charge rate?

Sorry for the hijack Collin, I also use LiFepo4 in my Futaba 9c and 7c. I also remove the batteries for charging but I am slightly concerned about causing undue wear on the connectors.

Thank you for your recommendation David but HK are not showing that battery. I note that a 2S LiFe has a nominal voltage of 6.6v. I don't know whether there is more than one version of the T8FG but I fear that 6.6v will be insufficient. My NiMh reads 8.2v when fully charged and the low battery alarm operates at 6.8v.

From memory Allan is correct, you need to configure the Tx for the type of battery you are using. I removed the battery for charging as I believed that LiFe requires a specific charging regime, with my charging of the battery done via an external charger set specifically for LiFe type batteries. The LiFe batteries last for a long time in my Tx, I have never found external charging to be a problem, although I do take a second battery with me as a spare. (Never had to use it). However, I am no expert and others more knowledgable may correct my procedures and assumptions
