Corne De Wagenaar
Hello all, My name is Corné and I just joined the forum. I read the RCM&E magazine every month and what a wonderful mag it is. We do not have any other modelling magazines in South Africa but I am not complaining. Hats of to the RCM&E team. An article that caught my attention was 'Happy Geek' by Chris Bott in the Sep edition. In the article he talks about the diode power board he is in the process of developing and uses in his Chippy. I have an Extreme Flight 78" Extra 300 waiting to be built. I am searching for a good dual battery system, but power boxes and the like are rather expensive here. I like to tinker with electronic gadgets and his system looks to be an option (with some tweeks perhaps). I would like to get more information on the power board if possible. Many thanks Corné
Bruce Collinson
Corne, Firstly, apologies for the lack of an acute accent on this I-Thing. Secondly, welcome to the Forum. Usually, the geeks form a queue to compete with each other in providing alternative solutions and as an electronics tinkerer I expect they’ll make more sense to you than to me. I have a similar issue with 2 LiFe batteries which I want in a P47 needing noseweight and with three servos per wing so I’ll bookmark this thread in expectation of replies and, hopefully, an actual diagram of an installation which is explicable to one with no electronics knowledge whatsoever. I thought diodes were soppy poems for funerals until recently. BTC
FlyinBrian
Hi Corne Welcome to the forum. Where in SA are you? I get to Durban about once a year and I do have a model all set up that I use when there.
Chris Bott - Moderator
Afternoon (in the UK) Corné I've made good progress with my dual battery solution. I'm at work at present but will try to put up some pictures and explanation this evening. It works very well as long as you understand it's limitations and don't expect it to replace all the features of a proper power box.
