Nick Somerville
I am visiting a local school in a few weeks to talk to some pupils about rc aero modelling and servo control systems. I would like to make some simple delta catapult gliders with the pupils from foam sheet attached to a simple stick with hook for launching. A very long time ago my brother and I used to make quite big ones from polystyrene ceiling tiles cut diagonally to make a delta wing and these flew well. I thought some depron might work for something smaller/safer but having not used any before need some advice regards suitable thickness to purchase. Nigel R
Not quite as requested... But, if you can't find depron, try the artist's foamboard from Hobbycraft. Broadly equal weight/strength to 3/32 balsa.
perttime
Real Depron might behard to find. There's various XPS foam products that might work. Something like https://www.elementshop.co.uk/insulation-boards/xps-insulation-boards/xps-insulation-boards-6mm-thickness (sorry, haven''t had UK products in my hands to assess.) Hobbycraft WestFoam board 6 grams for 100 sq cm, remove the paper and it looses roughly 4g! I can't be more specific because my kitchen scales only do 1g increments. Tosh McCaber
Go to B&Q. Our club uses their Diall white extruded polystyrene boards in place of Depron. They work very well. Boards are 800mmx600mmx 3mm/6mm/9mm. I seem to remember a pack of 8 sheets of 8mm were selling fo about a tenner, last time I was in. The others are pro rata in price.
