HELP. I am trying to arrange for somebody to come along to one of our club nights to give us a talk on anything connected to aviation. I am the social secretary for the 'Gravesend Model Flying Club' and we would cover any expenses and over night hotel costs if need be, for anyone prepared to come along.

If anybody can help then please leave means of contacting you and I will be in touch. Regards.

Hi Paul. Perhaps you could give us an idea of the type of thing you want - it sounds like you may need something a bit specialist as otherwise.....could existing club members not do some sort  of presentation ?
I know for instance that Ali Machinsky is often available to give a talk to clubs, for the cost of his expenses

Try and give us a few more clues as to exactly what you are after.

Paul, for a bottle of pop and a packet of pork scratchings i'll talk yer ears off !!

seriously though, we had Manny at the club a couple of weeks ago and it was a really good evening. His talk covers everything your BMFA fees pay for, from who does what at BMFA HQ, assistance with planning for flying sites, what your (very comprehensive) insurance covers, the different disciplines covered and how the BMFA liases with other bodies like the CAA, government and local councils. Give him a call for a very interesting and informative talk.

Slightly off thread, and I know it is nowhere near Gravesend but for clubs in striking distance of Derby, Rolls Royce Heritage Centre will allow groups/clubs on prearranged visits to see their excellent collection of aero engines, and will provide well informed guides to take you round. We had a club visit recently and was much enjoyed by all, a brilliant evening out. The engines range from Eagle right through the decades through to the latest Trent that powers Airbus 380. They also have engines they took over e.g. Bristols, and even have a BMW  from an FW190.  The guides certainly knew their stuff, and were very entertaining. All free of charge too.

Try the virtual tour on www.bbc.co.uk/derby/in_pictures/360_panoramas/rolls_royce_heritage_centre/index.shtml
