FlyinFlynn
My 2p. How things have changed over the years! During my working life I have spent over two decades as a printer engineer servicing both inkjet , mono and colour lasers and even a hot wax variant. There was a time when laser printers were heavily reliant on service engineers, happily though those times are long gone. It is not inconceivable now for a lay-person to look after and fix most faults one might get with a modern laser printer, they have become highly modular and, in comparison with the ones I worked on, extremely reliable. Inkjets, on the other hand, have gone the other way. forget about trying to fix one for anything more than a dirty encoder tape, if fitting a new ink cartridge doesn't fix it then throw it away and buy another one. At the end of the day though (apart from it going dark) it is a personal choice and mine is for two Brother laser scanner/printers and non-oem toner cartridges.
