Tony Gower
In RCM&E Jan 09 p43 the letter from Mike Healy has a reference to a [superb] set of instrument dial decals, from Maurice, at Maiden Hobby Designs.I can't find them on the web. Anyone know where they are please? Anyone have any other recommendations? I have tried taking a photo of the real thing and adapting it but have so far not been happy with my results. Thanks for any input

Ernie
Hi Tony, They are not so difficult to make...There are plenty references to be found on the WWW. I'll try to dig some out for you. Unfortunately, often they are not very good images, so I make mine on Photoshop..It just takes time..How much depends on how accurate you need to be. Here are a couple. The last image is a DHIa The bezels are made up from all sorts of bits and pieces, or turned from brass or resin..As Eric says, It is good to layer things. ie balsa for support, then face, spacer, plastic to simulate glass. I think on a WW1 job, you have to think dirty. After all they were often serviced in fields, and flown every day..Think how tatty your wat 4 would get if you treated it that wayernie
Ernie
Hi again Tony, I'm not sure what era interests you, but this is good for WW1www.memaerobilia.com/instrumentselection.aspSupprimer le cadre
Pat (rActive) Harbord
Ernie, those look great Is there a gap in the market for this kind of thing?I would be happy to do the research and production of simple 2 to 3 layer instuments (stand off scale) I can ensure correct markings, type face, colour etc. What kind of value would you put on such a thing.Tell you what, I'll have a go and post an example photo here. Tony Gower
Thanks for your input guys, and I am pleased we have a bit of a debate going too. I am sure there is a demand- my photos looked ok but not interesting. I can see I would need to apply layers. My interest is in WWI and I can spend the time if I have to but wondered if there are some easy shortcuts- like buying good ones!.Hence my question does anyone have contact details for Maurice, at Maiden Hobby Designs?
