Sparks Posted March 11, 2009 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Just like to comment that a fluorescent light 'flickers' at 100Hz (2 x mains frequency) not 50Hz as stated in the Tacho Check letter. This is because the light strikes on both the positive and negative voltage peaks. So thats 6000 cycles per minute, which is the blade passing frequency of a 2 blade prop @ 3000 rpm. Malcolm Fisher Posted March 29, 2009 Share Posted March 29, 2009 Reminds me of the time one of the members of a club I belonged to brought in a tacho.We ran several engines under the fluorescent lights and all recorded 3000 rpm regardless of throttle setting.
