Need to make a 24 Volt power source

I thought I would join this thread with a question. My Capiche 140 sports an OS 200 FS engine and although my Sullivan Dynatron can turn the  prop on a 12 volt power source on a mild day, it struggles in temperatures below 5 deg C. The Dynatron can be used with a 24volt power source so is it possible to use two 12 volts lead cells wired together to produce the desired power? Which terminals are joined together on the cells and which are the started attached to?  Also what sort of wire/clips should I use? I don't want to pay silly money for a 24v battery assuming I can  get one to do the job. I know this sounds a dumb question but I am no electrician!
