  1. Shaun   Thanks for the info.  Your model looks good and I am delighted she flies so well.   I am trying to include many photos of my build to assist others, however may I assure you I am not an experienced builder and the photos hide a multitude of rather untidy construction practices,.  The purest will have a fit but to the novices you can get a satisfactory job.    I find I am studying photos of complete models in an attempt to find out how certain items were done. My recent problem is the cowl.  I have purchased a nice shiny one but it is to small so I will make a balsa version and am constantly on the look out for a former, any suggestions?
  2. Have just discovered in my print options that when I choose  "Page Scaling"  I can get the same size as my print shop copy.   Looks like model will be to correct scale.  I could probably scale up for next one
  3. Though I could edit last posting but alas no.  A change bug?   Getting real confused.  In my experiments with Adobe I am getting plans of a really big model with a huge wing. When i measure the wing I have made it is about 50", the designed size, which then suggests the plans are ok.  The fuz is about 30" long from firewall to end, which I need some guidance on.   I note when I print in Adobe at 75% in the print guidance it shows 98% but when I print a 100% copy size  it shows 125%.   Any information gratefully received
  4. Well I don't no if its a disaster or not.  Have got the wings nearly completed and started on the Fuz.  Made former F1 > F5, the two sides and are currently sticking them in place.  It struck me that this is going to be a tidy little model.   Experimenting with Adobe, I at last find out how to print off sections of the drawing.  I now discover that the print shop reduced my file to 75% in order to fit the paper.  This is really going to be a petite little lady!   My concern now is will it fly and will the OS 30 Max I have be a bit to powerful?  Are there any precautions I should take?   There is one major positive.  I found my Magnattila a delight to fly and was an excellent trainer. I have been gathering bits to replicate her including a nice chrome cowl.  I now find I have advanced a bit and would need something a bit more acrobatic and a 100% Miss Lizzy will just do dandy, with the cowl fitting perfectly  along with a Saito 45 I have renovated.   Need to stop flying and get building
  5. Keat   "To be honest, that's where most of it still is today."   In order to keep good relations with our local farmers, we ensure we lift everything.  I carry a carrier bag in the tool kit for the inevitable.   You should be able to pick up  mount at your local model shop
  6. Slightly off topic, however, a few years ago I was on a golf outing at St Michaels golf club which is a bit west of RAF Leuchars, in the Kingdom, who had their open day.  The golf course is elevated from the airfield and a free display was provided.  The Red Arrows appeared and gave us their usual 5 star performance.  Where we were, was in the run off area and it was absolutley  amazing.  In front of the crowd the display goes on but once they have left the strip they have to reposition for the next formation.    Your just about to drive for a regular hole in one and this red missile appears, skidding about the air just 100 feet  above your head (well I exagerate a bit) looking like a rally driver in a 4 wheel skid., was I impressed.   If you look behind the display these guys are so top notch
  7. Ken your subtitle states "models stolen" and David was correct with his assumptions.   I did watch the item on the tv and whilst it may be sad to see, it came over to me that the council had bent over backwards to be fair.  The interview with Chris suggested he had just  taken no action hoping it would go away.   You have got to ask yourself  if somebody came right next to you and erected an illegal building how would you feel.
  8. Shaun, I have exactly the same problem that I do not experience on any other forum, or even Ebay.   If I am logged in on my laptop, logging in on my desktop logs me out of the laptop.  Go and log back in on the laptop and I am logged out of the desktop.  Just goes round in loops all the time.    Doug.  I have my desktop upstairs and my laptop downstairs.
  9. I have found 4 strokes need a little bit of extra care.  Had difficulty starting mine the other day, adjust the valve clearances and she now starts on the button,  No adjustments on a 2 stroke.   Hope after you peaked your engine you richened it up a notch?   Its all a matter of personal preference but you cant beat the sound of a 4 stroke.
  10. Great place for screws   http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/   Just used them and impressed with service
  11. Thanks Timbo   I think I will stick to NiCads as they appear more charger tolerant.   Amazed at the range in price for what appears the same item.   Assume the more mA the better.
  12. Thanks Timbo   Will my chargers do both types?
  13. LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY.  How lucky can you be in one day.  Had my Cub up today and was having a great time doing loops and turns that I did not no it was capable of when I notice it was not responding to all my  instructions.  Decided to play safe and bring her down.  Shut throttle and was being blown downwind when  noticed, no consistent response and appeared to be reacting to every odd signal being received.  She decided to come down herself and at the very last minute tried to build a nest in a tree.  Fearing the worst went to collect her and found absolutely no damage. Thats Luck number one.   Next Luck is I come against this thread, which appears to have gone off in a tangent, to the original topic heading.  It would appear that my battery pack has died and I now need to replace it.  What should I fit 4.8 volt or 6 volt,  Ni this ? or Ni that?.  My chargers, Futaba and Sanwa have 4.8 volt outputs.  I also have a variable output bench power supply.   Can I  please have simple answers
  14. Alex. The former also locates the fuel tank in the correct position with the rubber acting as a cushion from vibration.  If you can get foam in to keep the tank off the fuselage  this may be all you need.   The iron is used to stick the profilm to the balsa and a hairdryer is used to shrink profilm.  I am hoping a covering expert will come on and explain in more detail how to
  15. Alex   The former just has a hole in the centre for the fuel tank rubber to push through and sit on.  It would also add strength to the front.   I would use an iron at a low setting to stick the profilm to the  balsa.  A hair drier might give you too much heat.  The instructions are with the profilm and they also have a video on their web site which would be worth a look
  16. Alex   My Boom had another former just behind the front firewall to hold the front of the fuel tank.  Is that to go in yet?
  17. Just an update of tonights slow progress.  Beginning to look like a wing but don't look to close.   Clicked on a Peter Miller photo and found a link as to how to resolve my servo linkage problem.  Dead simple and grateful that this info available.   Will keep posting until your are bored

  20. Thought i would start a blog just to try and keep me in focus otherwise this project will go by the wayside.  Started about three weeks ago and am making slow progress, what with other models needing TLC and flat decorating, my activity has been in the evenings only. I have also named it after my grandson as it is being built for him as another reason for completing.   So far I have found scratch building a super challenge as it makes you use your noodle.  You also have the option to change things about  to suit yourself or the materials to hand.   Have started to build the wing and I am not sure how to operate the ailerons.   The plan shows a central servo but I need advise as to how the push rod/servo should be fitted.  My alternative is to fit two servos and here I am needing advise as to what size to fit.   Please feel free to comment in anyway  as I am open for any advise or, if you also want more detail as hopefully I can get some feedback.   Please also be aware I am working within my capabilities.  I have looked at the Miss Lizzies posted and am in awe.  If I can get near that standard I will be more than chuffed.   Some photos of progress
