  1. Just found these guys on the web, as i was after some spark plugs for my petrol engines and i did not want to use ebay great service and great prices and fascinating website **LINK**
  2. Posted by Greg Chiswell on 22/09/2014 19:12:25: No B Cert but I don't fly with a club - I'm trying to find a new flying site (based on the Wirral) - as secluded as possible as I hate an audience! I have a boat and sail and often find a secluded sand bank during the summer to fly on... so no club no proper flying site and probably no insurance, and you want help from us!! just dont kill anyone
  3. Klasskote will do it, a light sprayed coat first to seal the paint (if anything is going to make the paint pickle it will be the thinners) once the light coat has dried then heavier wet coats can be applied, my roundles and my insignia on my spit were sprayed with enamels
  4. I would not touch HSBC with a Barge pole they are not interested unless you have oodles of money I closed all my accounts and moved all my credit cards and mortgages away from them after being with them for nearly 20 years, Halifax bank just try to sell you loads, constant phone calls, coop bank have been good although I am very concerned at their ability to look after my money if they think it's fine to employ a guy with a taste for cocaine and no actuall experience of the finance business, wish I would have gone to nat west to be honest
  5. Peter absolutely bang on, same experience here, jr dsm2 had problems and lost models with the 5 and 6 channel rx, never had a problem with the old AR7000s and 9000s though and the problems always seemed to be in busy skies, since moving over to DMSS the link is rock solid and binding on switch on is rocket speed and if you ever simulate rx signal loss (turn tx off and on again) spektrum could take nearly 5 seconds to re-bind whereas the DMSS has re-bound before i have removed my finger off the switch, they might have been late comming to the 2.4gig party but by golly it is very well sorted
  6. i am on JR DMSS now so i dont think any cheap rx versions are out there and to be honest i would only use them in foamies my jet is about 3K in the air, why would i save a few quid on a cheap rx £90 for a proper RX in a 3K airframe really is a no brainer
  7. The best bit of advice i have probably ever had was to not be an idiot and get a boomer (i did not really want one as every man and his dog has one) so i did what i was told and ppicked up a second hand intro and nearly new p80 se and its been amazing do the right thing and pick up a boomer, do you have a b cert??
  8. many thanks for the comments guys and girls, sorry jamie i did not do a build thread on her as it took me nearly 2 years to finish her (other stuff got in the way, it would have been the worlds most drawn out build thread ever!!! wendy do you do a full length 1/5th scale pilot ..mine is not the best!!
  9. thanks guys, i will be honest, i was smiling like a loon for about an hour or two, Reg was bang on with the flap trim, none required!!! i managed to bend one of the cannons (plastic sealant gun tips) so i will have to make another and the wheel covers need shortening, despite her weight she will fly stupidly slowly and so i will have to reduce my landing speed a tad, it was weird really i was not nervous at all, i probably should have been but i was not, very strange, i remember flying her around and she looked incredible in the air (even better than most spittys thanks to that camo) i remember thinking to myself wow i wish i had something like that !!!!!!!!! oh hang on a min !! i will try and get hold of the club member with the pictures in flight and get some on here as soon as i can. Lee still grinning like a fool
  10. well it was maiden day today.........and it all ended in tears....good ones though !! i can report back everything went well she is smooth and very well behaved glad i did not put any down elevator mix in with flap as Mr Redshaw told me not to do, no trim change, full flap just slows here up very impressed some of the lads took some in flight photos and i will try to get them as soon, first two landings ended up with a gentle nod onto her nose with the third being a nice three pointer just about held with the elevator, great model!! well chuffed
  11. personally i think it is too easy to give B certs out to mates, it has happened and i have seen some of the B cert flyers fly and whilst they are in no way dangerous they are not to the B cert level i would expect to see, although they may have had a worldy of a flight on their test day, and so i can't really comment, suffice to say no one wants me to be their examiner as i am quite strict, my examiner was very strict and i take great pride in the knowledge that i passed my b cert under such conditions, as for the video it is quite difficult to assess properly as the poster above says but, i consider the rolls, stall turn and three turn spin all in need of practice and not a pass in my opinion.
  12. i can't put mine on it was very sweary donated 10 quid to MND as well
  13. Peter thanks for the offer of BMFA presidency, but sadly i do not have the time, i am a 42 year old who has been involved in this hobby for more than 25 years, and during that time i have struggled to find time to actually fly let alone anything else, i have been involved as a chairman and a CD of a club in the past and it is very hard work and thankless at times especially when you have a full time job and two kids in university, so i have to pass on this at the moment, whilst i am sure my charisma and personality would ensure i quickly rise like a phoenix to the top of the BMFA (that was sarcasm) it will have to wait for another day! on the NFC would it not be better to use some money to secure flying sites dotted around the country these could be existing sites purchased from the land owner and then leased back to the club at reasonable rates this would actually generate some income for the BMFA as well, not so long ago one of my old patches was up for sale for circa 40K this would have ensured the use of the patch for future generations provided some revenue and enabled the BMFA to hold fly ins there a few times a year, this replicated across the country is a far better legacy than a white building in the middle of nowhere that is nice to have a brew in, the cost of the NFC would i suspect enable 5 to 10 sites to be purchased across the country it is good to know that we have new bods at the top table, hopefully they will be forward thinking and actually go out and talk to the yoof to find out what makes them tick, you dont need an expensive consultency firm to do that Edited By Lee Smalley on 21/08/2014 13:47:02
  14. great to see them powered properly John
  15. cheers guys nice to hear those comments, you always hope people will like her as much as you do, so it is good to know i seem to have done a good job well the wingspan is 81" i checked the website as i said i have lost the manual, not surprising as i have had it for 2 years! the weight has come out a bit more than i would have liked, there is almost 2.5lbs of lead attached to beam mounting lugs of the engine, do remember it is only sport scale as i have not gone all Fenton on it and recreated each rivet but i have done enough to satisfy myself, i have left stuff off like lights, refueling cap etc, but as far as i am concerned it is enough, i had to draw the line somewhere !! i am hoping to carry out taxi trails after the Nats and then when the next good day arrives get her in the air! i will have a photographer with me as well so you will get pictures !!
  16. Great idea sadly they have only just got around to on line subscriptions so maybe another 5 years down the line!!
  17. If only we had magazines with really good circulation that the bmfa could put notifications in that would be seen by loads of modellers .....oh hang on we do !! Quite a few too, also considering that the classifieds is probably the most visited part of the website where was the big banner advert for the survey on every page!! Stop making excuses there was way way more they could have done to increase participation, but would it have mattered if after the first question was answered in a manner they did not like it was discounted, as this is what seems to have been the case here, did they honestly do this ??
  18. Posted by Chris Bott - Moderator on 20/08/2014 16:28:25: Very nice looking model Lee, best of luck. I'm sure she'll be fine, and you'll enjoy flying her. I love how the scheme flows into the yellow lines on the tarmac, top pic. Who knew cammo worked so well lol top spot mate i cant believe how every yellow bit meets a yellow stripe on he tarmac !! freeky weird 1st pic ...love it
  19. ok mate i will not put a mix in but i will have a helper ready on the trim and yes mate defo on the servo thing, so many amazing models with so much time invested and so much scale detailing only then to have servos waving at you, i really just dont get it ....why bother !! still each to their own i suppose. thanks for advice Ian mate, if i see you near the bar at the nats be prepared for beer
  20. i honestly dont think the bmfa have asked for opinions on the NFC, to advertise is soley on the BMFA news is akin to advertising it in the flyers you get in free papers and sunday magazines, people just dont read it peter, and say whatever you want but huge amount of people are of the same opinion, and please understand we do not really want to slate people who give their free time to try and help run our association, but honestly the general feeling is that the people up near the top really need to naff off and let some forward thinkers have a go, thats not to say it will all then be fine, but lets have a go and see what happens
