Vintage Model Collection
Simon Roberts replied to Stephen Grigg's topic in General Vintage R/C Chatter
Posted by Stephen Grigg on 29/07/2009 22:35:22: Hi Chris ,only been told by a club member that that is what it is.It is an all Balsa model built from a kit.The guy was obviously an engineer and no expense was spared ,the hardware is all good quality .I can see from the way these models are constructed why people knock ARTF.The construction is very substantial. The under carriage on all models is exceptionally strong and superbly made .Thr wing supports on. the Bi planes are very well filled and rubbed down. All models are finished with a coat of paint. The more I look the more I feel these models are a real find. They represent an era of quality.I hope I can do them some justice, and the engines have the power to get the etra weight in the air. Im quite dissapointed that ARTF seems to of taken over Kits, I love having to look at a big box of balsa and then "think" about building it! -
I need to reinstall after a format, not tried 2.5 yet! But i'll get installed and host a session tomorrow

Posted by Stephen Grigg on 26/07/2009 20:58:13: Frustrating, when I unpacked everything it was a bit of a shockas to the task ahead, but once Id made a mental list today has been clearer.Model aircraft are built to fly. This is the direction yourcousin needs to think. Is he someone who built without intending to fly,or did he retire and just wont let go? He was always just interested in building things (he was an apprentice joiner at the time), but not flying them! He built a good 5 or 6 really nice models with full radio gear and engines (they were mostly 20 size as i remember him going on about the OS20 engines he was using), Im going to twist his arm at our wedding next Friday and try and get him to hand them over to me!! haha we'll see what happens. Good luck on your mission here mate! -

You got a really nice collection there mate, im still trying to get my cousin to hand over all his old gear! He has a lot of stuff he never flew including an interesting Bi-Plane (this is all a good 25 years old), He says can have it all but just doesnt seem to be "in" when i suggest i come round haha. -
Erm, the hand of god comes down and plucks it from the ground and allows this poor little cub to go on its merry way?!

Good luck mate. Polyphilla. Cheers Phil I cant wait mate, but its meant no flying at all for weeks and weeks, oh well im sure this is more important haha. -

Prob not right place!
Simon Roberts replied to Simon Roberts's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
I dont want to got the B&Q Tool box route as i have a power panel and things i want readily available so the traditional field box is what i favour Woods not a problem (oooh errr) as my brother in law is a joiner and has offered me enough ply for the job, even offered me some walnut! think that might be a little extravogant for what i need though -
I need me a field box and me being very tight at the moment due to our impending wedding dont want to fork out for one, does anyone have a plan for one at all so i can knock one up? Thanks Simon
-
For my second model i really wanted a low winger kit so i can get used to how to put things back together after the inevitable! I really struggles as there dont seem to be many about, in the end i got the Mick Reeves Gangster Lite. Now im saying this as it does seem that people must want to just chuck somethign together and fly it rather than spend weeks / months building a lovely model, i think its a sign of the times, people want things yesterday if not before, quite sad really
-
Ive got me one of our spare rooms at the moment, which currently house's 2 models and all my kit, plus my PC with 3 x 22" monitors for my Flight Simming (online with ATC to). Next project is a new shed in our garden so i can keep all my kit in there, will post pics as i go along

I think the Cyano we use in modelling is a little different to the one used "in the field" from what ive read about it.
