  1. I think SMC sell some thing similar, they are sold as skids, instead of tail wheels.  Quite usefull on tarmacs etc.  FB3

    outstanding -words fail me FB3
  3. Thanks all for your help.  I intend to use a Laser 62 as it fits into the cowl.  Would this give enough  power.  Thanks FB3
  4. Thanks for the info Simon.  Is the 20% meant to be 20% synthetic..For info I use after run oil every time I finish flying, and and heve never been a speed freak, and have never had a lean motor.  Thanks again FB3
  5. Hi all, the instruction manual for my SC52 4stroker,recommends 20% castor oil.I prefer synthetic oils,  so is this recommendation "set in stone."Any idea what other folk use.  Thanks FB3
  6. I have been looking for a suitable model to try my B certificate.  I have been offered an old Skyways chipmunk called a Chippahawk.  Looks great about 72"" span.  Does anyone remember this one, and would it be suitable, before I part with my hard earned cash.  Thanks FB3
  7. Hi Pete, Seeing your Super grone, in the photo, it almost identical to mine even down to the moulded fus, but mine is 2channel.Must be about 20 year old I think. As I said I am a nitro nut, and this is my ffirst move into electrics and  gliding.I think the way to go is as you suggest, a combo.  Also I think there is quite some info regarding c of g caculations for tapered wings on the net.  Thanks all for your input.  FB3
  8. Hi all.I am in possesion of an old 72inch slopesoarer.  It has a moulded fus, and foam wing..  Overall weight empty 40oz.  Would it be feasable to convert it to an electric glider to be used on a flat field, or  is the weight a bit too much. If it is worth doing, any suggestions re power train would be most helpfull.  Thanking you FB3
  9. Hi all,Read somewhere an article on how to test a tank for leaks using warm water.  Cannot find it at the moment .  Any one  with the knowledge please.FB3
  10. Re Easy Star,  if I am going to do some gliding, Is there a book out there to give me some information, not too expensive mind, as I need the lolly to buy servos etc. Thanks FB3
  11. Thanks Phil,I might not have explained myself correctly.  I was not going to remove the motor, but use it to fly as a glider most of the time.  I mentioned non thermal conditions, thinking (right or wrong) that in thermal conditions, the gliding aspect would be much better.  Thanks FB3
  12. Hi all,as a commited nitro man, looking at electrics, could any of you electric gliding experts anwer this one please.  I am looking at the "Easy Star "as a glider ,rather than an electric model.  Most EStars in my club are flown at full throttle for most flights.   How does this model fare when gliding only, in non -thermal type conditions.  Thanking you FB3.
  13. Hi all,  Re reply  wot4 for windy flying, would that be the kit. or the artf version.  I would asume the kit would be heavier and would handle the wind that much better.  Cheers
  14. Sounds a good one kc.  How is the shrinking performed,  hair drier or microwave oven ?  Cheers
  15. Thanks Richard, and yes it is the "shrink pop bottle" system I hope to use.  Never tried it before, any hints would be welcome.  Cheers
  16. I am with Tim on this one, do what you are comfortable with, as long as it is safe, and also comply with your club rule book regarding t/o and landing if applicable.  Cheers.           We also ask any pilot in the box (centre of strip) if it is ok to take off.
  17. Hi all, could any tell me the most suitable and easiest to work wood ,to make a plug for large canopy.
  18. Sorry Tim, not into posting pics. at the moment.  Re-read instuctions  quote" insert grub screw into the front of domed nut, Scew on nut and tighten up grub screw"  So it also controls the distance the nut is screwed on to the shaft.  Cheers
  19. Hi all, hope this is not a dull question, Bought a dome nut on line, the type provided had a threaded grub screw fitted.  Instructions were to tighten dome nut, then tighten the grub screw via hole in front of the nut with Allan key provided.  What does this achieve, is it to lock the dome nut.?  Thanks FB3.
  20. Hiall,  Supermarine swift of the 1950s lovely looking plane.  Cheers
  21. Hi all, being new to this hobby I did not realize what a  debate a simple question (self tappers vs nuts and bolts) would bring.  Thanks for all the info which has enabled me to form an opinion.  I have gone for nuts and bolts( lock nuts plus Loctight.) Thanks FB3
  22. Hi, all,An on board glow has been mentioned in this post, would it be prudent to fit one to most models, or only larger scale models.  Thanks FB3
  23. Hi all, what are your thoughts on using self tapping screws to mount OS40 to engine mount. Some club members love them.  Thanks
  24. Hi all,  Just been informed that Solartex, is already fuel proofed, And that using varnish only fills the weave so it does not get dirty quickly.  I suppose then that the debate regarding water based or oil based varnish does nor matter. Thanks FB3.
  25. Hi,Steve, "clean brush in turps "it says on the tin, so it probably oil based as you say..Can this then be used to cover Solartex for fuel proofing anyway? Thanks
