  1. try a beefier puller **LINK** or simular.
  2. will-o, As jrman says, a bit of heat and a sharp tap with a hammer. Do protect the end of the crank. What sort of puller are you using? On some saito's (such as the 100) the way the cam drive gear is machined on the crank means that you must remove the cam box before extracting the crank.
  3. Do you mean side play or end play? I've only just changed the bearings on John's Saito 100 (amongst other parts). No biggy.

    Peter Ross

Does anybody know of Peter Ross, last known of Somerset? Thanks
  5. Take off time has been put back to 1400hrs
  6. Very interesting. Thanks Cymaz. I have recently been wondering how fuel behaves in the tank as my saito powered Wots wot will fly inverted all day, knife edge either way from horizon to horizon, lomchavak, inverted spin....but....after 1 turn of a normal spin either way the engine will stop. I suspect this is because the engine is at idle for a long time prior to entering the spin and not drawing fuel hard.
  7. +1 for the versa wing. Build it in 6mm depron and cover with packing tape.

  9. PerryAir based at Shoreham do Tiger moth experience flights including loops and rolls (as do others). Top fun. They are economic but a little disorganised. Max passenger weight for aerobatic flight is 17st. I had to lay off the pies for a couple of weeks. Edited By Mr.B. on 14/08/2015 13:36:54 Edited By Mr.B. on 14/08/2015 13:39:58
  10. I've tapped mine to 4mm and use button head hex drive machine screws. I use a ball end drive to insert & remove so it's pretty speedy.
  11. CS - not to mention in Red tails that while inverted the pilots lose clothing continues to dangle down. Err in mean up if you see what I mean. Flying Leather necks uses bits of news film of actual WWII combat in the flying sequences. Consequently our hero changes aircraft several times mid flight. You would think that film FX have moved on but looking at Red tails it seems not.
  12. One assumes that list was compiled before "Red Tails" came out.......
  13. As air flow over the fin and rudder increase the tail wheel become less effective. Obviously once the tail is up the tail wheel has no effect at all. The wheel is only really effective at taxi speed. Use rudder to keep the ground run straight early in the take off run. As the speed increase release the rudder so that it is at neutral when you lift off. It sounds like you are pulling the aircraft off to early. Try to keep it on the ground longer to let the speed build. Check the main wheels are both spin freely. Do you have any body to teach you to fly?
  14. The prop unloads as the aircraft accelerates. If the aircraft doesn't accelerate to close enough to pitch speed the prop won't unload. In this case the prop/engine were mismatched so it couldn't accelerate If you wheel spin your car from standstill the engine revs drop once the tyres grip. If the prop is stalled with the aircraft static it's not 'gripping'. Similarly if you select too high a gear the engine won't take full throttle or accelerate. I'm getting about 9000RPM static. In flight is harder to judge!
  15. Actually Steve I think the opposite, but with the same outcome. At static thrust (ie when tuning) and high revs the prop is stalled and not absorbing much power. At flying speed the prop is working properly and absorbing more power hence the engine can deliver full revs. With the throttle fully open and the engine unable to rev the induction vacuum drops and hence the carb does not flow enough fuel.. Rich H. Thanks, what other type of plug is there? OS type F reassuringly expensive.
  16. Ken, Rick, 13x8 fitted and now it pulls full revs. Thanks. I also purchased a 14x6 to try but the hub is to thick to allow a spinner back plate, washer and lock nut. And that's with using a sleeve nut.
  17. I recently sold some model railway equipment on ebay. One of the buyers got in touch to say I had miss described the stuff I had sold him. I had not miss described but said OK, if it's not what you thought you were buying then send it back and I will refund. The stuff he sent back was not what I had sent him!. When I pointed this out it turned nasty and he accused me of all sorts of things. About an hour later he replied again with a full apology saying he had mixed up the packages at his end. All's well that ends well. No hard feelings. But, if he had not realised his mistake and taken it up with ebay I wonder how it would have ended.
  18. Thanks all. I've come across the manifold sealing problem before. And changed the plastic back plate to Ali on my 82. I will try running with the cowl off for better cooling and a smaller prop as it does feel like the engine is bogging down at full throttle.
  19. Thanks Yakmad. Over heating is a thought. I've checked for air leaks, splits in fuel lines etc. After a 10min flight the 360cc tank is still over 3/4 full! It's much more economic than my Saito 82. It's interesting you are set at 2 1/2 turn out on the main. I started there and it seemed to be lean.
  20. I have a Saito 91 fitted in my mustang. Inverted, conventional tank set up, contest 10, 14x7 prop. I have tuned the high speed (3 1/4 turns out) and low speed needle on the ground. And it runs great...on the ground. In flight the revs drop off noticeably above approx 75% throttle but it will continue to run. Starting and transition from low speed to high speed is fine. Any thoughts?
  21. I bought a bottle of "epoxy thinners" from southern model craft at the Blackbushe show. I have not had cause to use it yet.
  22. One of our members brings his quad copter and stuff on his BMW GS. I've bungeed a foamy park flier to the back of my Kwak a couple of times, Tx and lipos in panniers.

OK if you're retired I guess... At the week end we are now restricted to Sunday 10 'till 1 only. The hard part is organizing the weather to cooperate.
