  1. Nah, its all faked. Elvis told me!   Just out of interest, what about UFOs? Personally I don't hang much faith in them.  I spend a lot of time in the sky and I aint seen nuthin!  Spent a fair bit of time looking through a telscope too, still nuthin!   It all comes down to me and Elvis really. And I aint too sure about him!!   David
  2. Doug, interesting comment. I assume that since the film was made by a German director, in Germany, in german, with all German cast that you mean the mention of Minster is innapropriate because so many will not know it.   The film,   Downfall, is a superb account of the last days in Hitler's bunker. I urge those who have not seen it to watch it (it has English subtitles) as it is probably as close to fact as we will ever get (it features his secretary, Traudi Junge  , who was about 24 at the time) and she added much factual content.  She was fortunate to escape in the end and died only recently, full of guilt for her youthful ignorance.  She said, "I admit, I was fascinated by Adolf Hitler. He was a pleasant boss and a fatherly friend. I deliberately ignored all the warning voices inside me and enjoyed the time by his side almost until the bitter end. It wasn't what he said, but the way he said things and how he did things."      Also interestingly (I hope) was that the director Oliver Hirschbiegel was recently on the old wireless complaining (somewhat tongue in cheek) that he was now fed up of so many people using this particular scene for humorous purposes on youtube.   Ive only seen two funny versions (Ive seen more, but don't think they are funny), the BMW motorbike one and this Wildthing version.  Thanks for sharing.   David
  3. I regard myself as a modeller.   I'll design, build, operate anything in model form. I enjoy modelling in all aspects. Many I have yet to try, but whilst there's breath in my body I look forward to much.  Some I have tried and find them dull (cars!) but that just means I havent tried the right form (a 600 quid Traxxas off-road buggy is NOT dull!!  Alas, a 600 quid off-road buggy is for me to watch not own!).  I have pootled with N Gauge trains (not for me it seems, but I tried), boats can be fun but take up too much flying time. I have just scratch built a "Footy Class" yacht which I am fitting out and will sail whilst my boys sail their full size dinghies, so that will enable me to model during otherwise model-free time!.   I havent tried submarines yet.   I'm an instructor on FW, a B on helis but I can't drive the boys cars for toffee and Ive just been up to Salisbury Plain to watch the free-flight boys chase their wares!   I love model aeroplanes, but pretty much anything in model form I find thrilling, though I havent yet made a start on my daughter's dolls house I promised her six years ago. Poor girl!     David
  4. Thanks Chris.  I'll be doing my thinning outdoors, with gloves on, for short periods. Ditto the painting too!   David
  5. Absolutely. It was the thinners used in Typex IIRC.   But I doubt ANY thinners we use is exactly GOOD for us.    D
  6. Thanks Tom, I hope the A and E visit wasnt TOO bad!!   Ref what I have around...my fear is that what I have might just render my expensively imported M60 to a rather un-lovely jelly!!   Never mind, I have now bought two tubes of Goop from Palamers and a tin of Toluene from Reagent Chemicals.   It'll probabl;y see me out!   David
  7. Thanks guys.   I gather Tom was speechless!!!   I'm reading through Toms M60 article now.   D
  8. Okay I am about to go out and spend thirty quid on 2.5 litres of toluene and another fifteen on Goop.  has anyone found cheaper alternatives or smaller supplies of Toluene?  I cant imagine an M60 needs 2.5 litres of thinners!     Ref Zap a dap a goo , Midland Helis tell me it has been banned due to toxicity!     David Edited By David perry 1 on 24/04/2010 14:13:05
  9. I have taken delivery of my M60 which calls call for Goop. I find a lot of web chatter regarding this.   I have used goop before, years ago, and it was hard to find then. Things havent changed it seems.  Some people suggest Zap a dap a goo is goo alternative to Goop, and this might be so.  However, the M60 calls for thinned Goop...the thinners is Toluene.  I dont fancy working with Toluene!  Palmers Metals sell Goop and Reagent Chemicals sell Toluene, but only in 2.5l bottles...which seems like a lot of Toluene!   Anyway, does anyone know, ref EPP models, is Z A D A G the equal of Goop and how can Z A D A G be thinned down?   Or am I rather stuck with buying genuine goop and 2.5l Toluene????   David
  10. Yup, it all comes down to tax revenue.  I wonder what the model aeroplane industry is actually worth?  Not inconsiderable I should think, given the energy the chinese expend on blowing foamies out of factories left right and centre.   D
  11. I recently bought a Swift 2 from Robot Birds, which is now pretty much finished, but my darling ones have half-inched the little sheet of destructions that came with it. There was only one piece of info I actually needed...the CoG.   Does anyone know  this please?   David
  12. Forgive my out of touchness, but whatever happened to Flying Sparks contributor Dave Chinnery?   I thought his articles were most interesting and memorable.    David
  13. The little warthog is a great flier...thanks for the advice!!   David
  14. I wonder how far across the atlantic my M60 got before the volcano ruined its chances of getting to me??   D
  15. Tony, t   The BMFA advice isnt dated, so it might be , erm, dated. As in 'old', and based upon older kit, older cells etc. You cant teach an old dog, and all that.  Many ARTF txs come these days with dry cells and have no issues. I have flown my PZ Spitfire with dry cells for two years now (actually, the same dry cells it came with. The voltages are all fine), and my son's PZ Bf 109 (rubbish though it was) flew with dry cells in it's tx too till it did the decent thing and crashed (not due to battery fault!).   Given this experience, I can understand your query and I would have to say, as one who has swallowed and peddled the 'no dry cells' mantra for many many years, maybe it just isnt so any more.   Mind you, I'd not run my 'main' tx on dry cells...ugh, feeding a FF9 with dry cells...infra dig old bean, infra dig!   David
  16. Posted by James40 on 13/04/2010 21:06:15: BB,   Are you saying set a low power setting when flying down wind ?    I was under the impression that ground speed shouldn't be confused with airspeed, it may be zipping along but on the edge of a stall if you've got low power set.  ABSOLUTELY right.  Use normal throttle settings. Try to keep as much of the profile just as normal as possible.   Try to learn, later on, to fly in strong wind and enjoy them. If you don't fly in wind in the UK, you don't fly much. It amazes me how so many people won't go up in a blow.  The advice you've had here on the forum is good stuff mind you!!    David
  17. I emailed NCFM today and they confirmed they have despatched my glider kit!   David
  18. John,   The Super Sixty is one of the most beautiful and elegant model aeroplanes of all time. I would it is THE definitive model aeroplane.    It will fly with three or four channels, as you have surmised.     You say it didnt fly as a three or four channel.  What does " it didnt fly" mean? It wouldnt take off? It wouldnt stay airborn? You crashed it?  Lets go through this step by step.   How is the plane now? What does "didnt fly" mean? How had yoy got the plane configured? Any pics?   David
  19. I have an imax charger and everytime I charge my lipos I get the options of lipo charge or lipo balanced charge.   I think I know the difference, and I always go for balanced charge anyway, but what is the significance of the choice and should I ever choose just to charge and not balance?   david
  20. Ian,   I mildly agree with your point re the "*" in Old Matey Boys column, though its just his style and all in all his style is pretty good!  As for electric being here to stay, I think even that comment is dated now -  electric is simply another arm of the modelling way of life, like diesel, glow, bungee etc etc.   The editorial style I do NOT like is the pasting of snippets of text into the main image as huge type, like banner heads or whatever they are called.  Reminds me of Tr*pl*t style...shudder shudder.    David
  21. Looking at the bottom of my easy Pigeon, I'd say sheep poo sticks pretty well too.   David
  22. Ok, Ive done it.  Ordered an M60 and ballast kit.   I'll let you know how i get on.   David
